That is a Jeep JK, and the newer model (18-present) is a JL.

The JKs had 2 different V6s, and it changed over about half way through production. The 17s have the preferred V6. It's a well proven motor.

Personally, I think that looks like a very nicely equipped Jeep at that price.

Previous owner did alot of work for you!

I can't tell in the photos, but if it IS really a Recon Edition, it should have a black front grill and Red Seatbelts. That's sweet, sweet red seatbelts all jeep owners pine for! You can look up all the Accoutrements for a JK Rubicon Recon online to validate they are all included.

One thing to check is the track of the front and rear axle. What I mean is, sometimes after a suspension lift the front axle will shift to one side and the front and rear tire won't line up.

You can find this by measuring down from the fender, the out to the edge of the tire.

Its not a deal breaker, but you will need to add an adjustable Trackbar to fix, and that is about $500 for a good one.

I hope that is valuable information, and can help in your decisioning.

The only Wrangler engine with a bad rep on the internet is the old 3.8L from 2007 thru 2011. But even it has no history of grenading or anything else catastrophic. Yes, the 2.4L, 2.5L, 3.6L and 4.0L are "better" but all the Wranglers came with reliable power.

We have had several Wranglers, the newest was a '12 my son owned. The big plus was an bump in fuel economy. He could easily go 100 kms further than I could in my '05 TJR. He also had the 3.23 ? ratio vs my Rubi with the 4.10s. But the 3.6L is definitely a modern engine with great gas mileage potential.

The best thing about Wranglers is how well they hold value. They will seem expensive when you buy one, new or used, but they will not depreciate much when you go to sell it.

Painful reading that ad, it has 3.73 & 4.10 ratios, a 6 speed manual plus a 5 speed auto, at least it has lipgloss on it. I'd offer the $23K they say Wranglers start at lol. Cut & Paste is not the way to write a For Sale Ad.

Hmmmm. Here's the business on a Recon. Don't accidentally pay extra for a badge on the fender. If it's a recon, it's a special edition and should have some special stuff.

I agree, but I go further, don't pay extra for contrast stitching, red seat belts or any lipgloss touches. Pay for things that are functional, like lockers and winches.

The only Wrangler engine with a bad rep on the internet is the old 3.7L from 2007 thru 2011. But even it has no history of grenading or anything else catastrophic. Yes, the 2.4L, 2.5L, 3.6L and 4.0L are "better" but all the Wranglers came with reliable power.

thanks, but not sure what you meant by the "it has 3.73 & 4.10 ratios, a 6 speed manual plus a 5 speed auto"? Keep in mind we are a 4WD/Overland newb! :-) Jeep/Toyota/Ford/Chevy/anything!

not sure what you meant by the "it has 3.73 & 4.10 ratios,
read the full ad, obviously the seller didn't

Not sure about price but it appears to be pretty clean. Price is about comparables in the same market. I'd recommend getting an inspection before buying it. There is a massive range of competence /incompetence on any modified vehicle.
