We regret to inform folks that we recently lost a longtime friend of Overland Bound. Rex Drake @Sparksalot was a wonderful contributor and citizen of these forums and he will be greatly missed.

He was an avid camper and outdoorsman and then overlanding caught his eye back in 2019. A friend of his mentioned the tear drop trailer he towed was completely built by his own hands when his daughter was younger so they could explore the outdoors together. He documented his vehicle buildout and thought process in his own build thread and all you have to do is read a few posts to understand the time and passion he put into his work.

Our condolences to his family and friends.

I met Rex on the OB forum and later my wife and I met up with him and did a week long trip with him at Black Gap (outside Big Bend). Super cool guy who just had a great outlook on life. Extremely talented and equally kind...definitely one of those guys who makes your life better for having known him...

(Rex had "thecopcar"...he got a Tahoe police cruiser and converted it to an overland rig. He had funny stories of driving on the highway and people slowing down and getting over for him thinking he was a highway patrol. Rex also had a very good sense of humor!)

Rex and I started the original Central Texas monthly meetup many years ago. At times, he (and Molly the overland hound) and I were the only ones there. Although we never made any long trips together, we had several good times together on local trips each year. He was always upbeat and ready for an adventure and an integral part of every trip or meeting. Nothing will be the same without him and our whole family will miss him.

Sad to hear of the loss of Rex. I never met him but liked his humor and contributions.

Rex lived less than a mile from me. He was the one that introduced me to the monthly meetup and the annual blue bonnet tour after i joined OB. He knew my whole family and was an asset to this community. We had spent many hours talking about trucks and overlanding and just life in general.

Good dude. Will be missed.

Rex was one of my best friends, I got to know him well and I am quite sure that he was one of the best people I know. Always had a story to tell. He will be greatly missed by many.

Hey Rob, all the messages disappeared and no one is here at the park today. I came at 930, though. Did everyone leave already?
