Hey all,

We have made a change to the signatures on the OB forums. We have limited the signatures to:
  1. One URL
  2. One image
All other signature features and formatting have remained the same.

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you!

Curious as to why it is limited one URL? If sig size is a problem, I'd rather have no images instead of limiting URLs. Most forums I'm on don't allow sig images, as they disrupt the flow of the conversation. Signatures don't even show up in the mobile apps, so small screen size shouldn't be a concern.

(I have four URLs, but could easily cut two lines of plain text.)

Hi guys! Great feedback. The goal is to limit the forum spam before it really starts. I've noticed a few signatures starting to lean in that direction, but hear you on the URL thing. Here is a proposal. Let me know what you think.

I don't want to limit the image ability all together. I think that is a nice forum feature. How about:

Registered users: One image and one url.
Members: One image multiple urls

What do you think?

I don't mind the multiple URLs if they are going to social media accounts. Maybe make a "white list" of URLs to ignore and allow one non-white-listed URL (I don't know if that's even possible) so people can post links to their travel blogs or personal sites.

I've noticed some retailers have started making user accounts here to promote their products. One particular traction product comes to mind. I'm a moderator of another overland community as well as an XTerra community - that same company started posting in those communities to promote their product (and around the same time). When they were asked to stop, they argued about whether is was technically against the rules. I finally had to ban them temporarily and remove their posts. When the ban was up, they came back and did it again - earning another ban. I saw the exact same posts in at least six other communities and forums around the same time. Clearly it was a marketing strategy by the company and they didn't have to pay anything to the forums they invaded.

I know OB is supposed to be ad-free, it's one of the reasons I purchased emblems, I don't want to see it commercialized by companies that act this way; they get exposure but contribute nothing to running the site.

Maybe this is just me, I have an irrational hatred of ads - especially sneaky ones. So I'm perfectly fine bringing down the hammer on this type of spam.

One image, multi url is good for members. I'll have to combine my pics it seems:)

Pre-approved social media fields in the profile page and maybe allow one custom url? Something like that might help mitigate spam.

IF you are a company coming in here to advertise, but not "approved" by leadership, im sure it will be handled

For me, I have companies that support me, and that I support. Id like to be able to link to them.

The idea to limit for non members, and allow for members is in line with a HUGE amount of the forums that I am on. That is fair

OK here is what we are doing currently. Registered users can have one image and one URL. Members can have one image and four URL. This is for now. I would really appreciate on going be back on this topic if you guys think we can improve.

Thoughts? Good for now?
