From September 15th until the 22nd or so I am planning to head out west to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon from Atlanta GA and I am currently building out my Jeep Gladiator. Im almost ready. However, I am having a bit of a time trying to figure out routing and possibly meeting up with anyone out there with some experience possibly. I have never been to the area and don’t want bite off more than I can chew. I have referenced the calendar for rally points and it seems no one in this app will be out there at that time currently. Any guidance or referral would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

You will love it. I have a couple of places I visit most often. East Rim Trail has some great campsite right on rim. Take a look at our website for in depth blog post on North Rim. whiskey7backroads.com Have fun and stay safe

We were down on Kelly’s Point a couple years ago. Get a map of the region by calling the BLM office for the Arizona Strip. I believe the offices are in St George, Utah, they will send you a detailed topo map for 10 bucks or so. Driving range is a consideration as well. Kelly’s point is about 100 miles south of St George, however, it is at least a 7 hour drive on technical trails. We brought 15 extra gallons of gasoline and used it all as we wandered a bit after Kelly’s. In short, good maps and at least a 350 mile range of gasoline.

I have just returned to Tampa Fl from that area in the middle of June and loved it. I did the normal tourist spots including the North Rim Visitor center , Cape Royal, Timp Point and Fence Point etc. etc.... I also made a quick stop at Horseshoe Bend near Page Utah which was just as beautiful. Getting there was easy. I connected with I 40 outside of Memphis and drove it until I got to Flagstaff Az. After sightseeing south of Flagstaff for a week I got on 89 and took it around to Jacob Lake North of the North Rim of the Canyon. Just south of the Demotte Campground at 36° 24' 6.25" N 112° 7' 52.13" W I headed west into the hills and dispersed camped for another two weeks while I did my sightseeing. Other than a little washboarding and some snow in a few locations the roads were pretty solid. The main roads were great. Some of the secondary roads way out in the sticks was a little more sketch. After two weeks there I went up to Moab for another week and I highly recommend it. On the way there you can stop overnight at Pilot and Loves Truck stops for free. Some roadside rest areas also allow you to stay overnight but they fill up pretty early. Just enjoy yourself while you're there.
