So I want to open up some discussion on this crazy idea I have.... I want to drive/Overland around the world.

Starting here in Atlanta and driving down to savannah which is then where my rig will be shipped to Iceland.
  • Travel around the ring road in Iceland then take a ferry from Iceland to the Faroe Islands Then Denmark
  • Traveling from Denmark through Europe
  • Kazakhstan to Ukraine
  • Ukraine to Mongolia
  • Mongolia To Russia
  • Then the difficult part Russia to Alaska
  • Alaska through parts of Canada then to the US
Through out the trip the goal is to visit as many national parks in each country and meeting up with off-roaders all over the world those that do it every day as part of their day to day . And those that do it for recreation. Also discussing the importance of trail maintenance and preservation.

We would also be shooting and documenting the whole trip for a documentary with daily behind the scenes going on youtube.

So heres my questions A as an overlanding community what would y'all like to see us include in the message of the film. Also does anyone have some tips or advice as we start the preplanning of this trip. Love to here what everyone has to say!

That's an epic trip you're planing , sounds like it should be interesting. How much time are you allowing to do this? About 5 years ago in Gaspe Bay Quebec I met a couple from England that has traveled much of the world in overland vehicles . I think you would find there site interesting.

I will defiantly check that out! Ewan Mcgregor (Obi Wan Kenobi from the Star Wars prequels) And a buddy of his did it on BMW Motorcycles in 2004 in about 4 months. Im planning on about 7 months since I'm adding Iceland into the mix plus shipping is a lot easier for motorcycles than a fully loaded jeep.

The long way around, and the long way down were awesome. Very inspirational.

I see you are a jeep owner, so perhaps may not be familiar with X-overland. (A Toyota expedition) - check them out on YouTube if you haven't already. Also very inspirational.

It's all doable - I plan on hitting the road eventually as well. Lots of logistics to figure out first - and perhaps worth trying some very extended trips within the US before jumping to another country, where things will undoubtedly get logistically more complicated.

I say go for it - I think many of us have this dream.

Unfortunately there are no roads between Russia and Alaska. And the northern coastal areas of Siberia are under the jurisdiction of the Federal police and it is very difficult to get access there. For next way from Russia you need to check ferries/ships from Nahodka. I know what I'm talking about. I traveled to Chukotka and the Far East of Russia.

Thanks for the information I kinda figured Russia was going to be one of my issues. Worst case scenario I know there is a ferry between Russia and Japan and then ship the rig between Japan and alaska

As many here have said, this trip might have to include a few shipping lanes, But for the most part a main concern would be boarder regulations. Crossing from one country to another can be difficult and very challenging. But you have a plus on your side, those here are here to support you cause. In doing so, they should be at the ready to travel along side for any given point to point location. It's not advised to tackle this type of bucket list travel around the world alone. Plan your trip, contact those on the boards who happen to be along a designated route for traveling companions.

Might want to check this fellows adventures out, if you haven't already.

So, when will you leave?
Next year I am planning a trip around the Baltic sea. Ferry from Tallin to Helsinki and we will do the North Cap.
This is an Easter Europe/Skandinavian trip.
If it is interesting to you, you can tag along.

Nice plan! Count me in for assistance in germany!
I know someone who is able to help you with the eastern part, Russia, Ukraine and so on, he's a former resident of the area and a professional guide and knows how to cross these borders smoothly without paying to much ..
