indeed that could work - same style as how the US ones have for differnt badges (not necessarilly OB)

I have seen (on other things) US use the outline of the State they are representing - that could / would work in this instance here for the 4 Regions of GB
What about the map of the UK in green and for each region overlaid with the respective portion of the Union Jack (stand fast Wales who will have to use their own flag)

That is an interesting one and I guess it would be down to who @Corrie and @Michael would consider to be the Ambassadors for each region to then look after it with a bunch of moderators backing up the main contact.. ?

Who knows.. :p
guess put out any suggestions to all UK members for voting. If you don't vote then you can't complain.

Very true!

A mass mail to UK registered members (OB and perhaps forum members) and go from there

Hmm wonder if a new thread should be made for UK regional to discuss perhaps... see what happens in a few hours when our State side friends come more online and catch up [emoji6]

Hey all,

The system that has worked so far (and may not be sustainable) is that we open up regions when an Ambassador emerges naturally. The community itself is a pretty good filter for this. In the US and AUS, this has been the case. Someone is active, naturally understands our goals, mission, and Founding Principles, and the community respects the individual to represent the region. It's not perfect, but we haven't rolled out regions until there is someone who is very active and can take the whole thing on soup to nuts. Its a big responsibility, and there is a lot of dialogue btwn you and other Ambassadors. Ambassadors speak for Corrie and I, and are able to articulate policy and make calls. They are all also "Staff" in these forums, and coordinate their designated fb_group admins, or admin the fb groups themselves. There is quite a bit of on-boarding that occurs!

Concept Art ONLY - Not in any way official - only as an idea...

So in keeping with the theme of the other ones that are official (which are landscape backgrounds) - Flags and Land border outlines is a nice idea but I'm thinking they want to keep continuity so I've made Scotland, Northern Ireland and England but not sure how to represent Wales

Have a look and see what you think...

Northern Ireland - Giants Causeway
England - Stonehenge
Scotland - Edinbourgh Castle
Wales - Need ideas...

Hey all!

There is a strong need for us to expand our region presence for those who would like to connect locally! We've been working hard on this! We are designating regional Ambassadors who will be the primary point of contact for the area. We haven't recruited for Ambassadors, these are individuals who have emerged naturally, and are heavily engaged with the Overland Bound community. The Ambassador position will shift to others as life happens, and is not a permanent post. In keeping with our core principles, it is very much a position of service to the community.

After much Deliberation, here are our final regions in the U.S. We will also be designating regions globally as we go forward.

View attachment 19930

The regions are based on the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Department of the Interior. @Steve has taken on the role of global Ambassador

Our good friend, and I think, like the 3rd member of these forums @Steve is taking on the role of overall Ambassador to field questions and offer any neccessary guidance to all regions. Regions are:
  1. NorthWest - Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Idaho
  2. West - Nevada, California, Hawaii - @Michael
  3. Rocky Mountain - Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Utah, Colorado, Kansas
  4. SouthWest - Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma
  5. MidWest - Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Iowa
  6. SouthEast - Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Puerto Rico - @Dananc
  7. East - Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West virginia. Virginia, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Delaware - @Chris Jones
Each region will have a logo (see above) and patch, and will likely have a Facebook group. We have been in touch with facebook groups that already exist to see if they would like to be the "Official" Overland Bound facebook group for the region, and we will be communicating more about that soon!

We'll be adjusting the region section of the forums - Of course you do not have to move or stop participating if your lines are redrawn.

The patches will be available soon, and can have your number added for those that want to represent their region, or show which regions they've been too!

As always, glad to have your questions!

M
Looks like I get to have a dual region as I live in Atlanta for 8 months out of the year and Nantucket for 4 months.

Sorry for being so late to the discussion but I think AZ and NM should be in the Rocky Mountains group. Most of us in AZ do a lot of trips in the Four Corners area and would not do anything in OK or anything in TX other than maybe far west TX. Maybe change the division lines more based on time zones? Of course AZ we don't switch so we're weird.

Based on the current SW group I see lots of folks not having anything in common for joint gatherings and a lot of AZ/NM folks wanting to do things with the Rocky Mountains group. Same may be said for other bordering regions.

So how would you address this if you don't shift around some states other than be a member of multiple regions?

I run a group called AZ Overlanders where hyper local works well for certain things but there is a small subset of folks with more flexible schedules that like to do longer trips. So you might consider somehow teaming up with the small local groups as well and somehow trying to bring them into the circle but keep them local in nature.

Thanks
