Coastal Maine here, Portland area.

On the road a lot and getting ready to head out again soon, though when I'm in town I'm always happy to show folks around Portland area, or make a run up to Acadia NP and Mt Desert Island, etc. Want to check out North Maine Woods sometime, too, as well as venture back into New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. The Cabot Trail around Cape Breton would be fun to do with a few vehicles, though I have no idea these days what exists for back-road/dirt-road opportunities around the Cabot Trail.

Let me know if you're coming to Maine and if I'm around, let's do something.

I was just talking about the Cabot Trail last night with @Big110. Sounds like a pretty cool route.

Cool, cool, Chris, and pleased to meet you. I've msg'd with @Big110 about some gear he has.

I think it'd be a blast to get a few of us together to do the Cabot Trail. Head up from somewhere in Maine like Portland (or Acadia NP perhaps?) up the coast of Maine to St John, New Brunswick, then over to PEI (an island province with red sand, white sand, and black sand beaches), then take the big ferry from Woods Island PEI over to Nova Scotia and across the Canso Causeway (deepest causeway in the world), up around the north side of Bras d'or Lake to Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail.

While the Cabot Trail is a two-laned paved road, and not a lot of off-road ops I know of personally, there are some spots we should check out on Cape Breton, like Middle River Wilderness Area, the French River Wilderness Area, Cape Smokey Provincial Park, and of course Cape Breton Highlands National Park, 235,000 acres where the mountains meet the sea. The scenery and vistas of the Cabot Trail easily rivals California's Big Sur, in my opinion.

According to the OB Member Map there are some members in NB and NS we should reach out to about good spots for several vehicles to camp overnight, and if there are any good dirt roads we can explore.

Here are some other links on the Cabot Trail:

Here's a very preliminary route, one I've done a few times, though long time ago. There's a wicked long bridge now from New Brunswick to PEI, though the ferry that ran there was just awesome, handling train cars and semi-trailers on one deck, autos on another, and passengers on the top deck. One of my favorite Maritime memories is passing another ferry going the other way at dusk, deck lights illuminating train cars, toots of the ship's horns, etc. There still is a ferry from PEI to Nova Scotia, though much shorter, which I'd love to do again.

Here's a link to the google map, where you can change way spots: https://goo.gl/maps/SvYStNpwW432

Lots of possibilities for the NE OB contingent to explore.

Let me know if you're interested or have input on possible dirt roads/back roads/dispersed camping spots and maybe we can get something going!

I'm going to be doing something very much like this route, hopefully this fall when colors are at their peak around Cape Breton, just to be there again. Anyone who wants is welcome to come along. PM me with info on rig, gear you travel with, etc.

Dry roads and open skies to you all,

Road

Central New York here.

Thanks to Hank Outdoors, OB is starting to gel in this area. I have met several members now. We are heading out this weekend for a 2 nighter (yes the weather is still miserable..but you can't wait on warm around here).

Hello from north western connecticut. New to the board. Been jeeping for many years. Took a break. Now starting a new build with a 2013 f150 fx4. Not going wild with it. Rtt in the future and looking into a lift.

Definitely interested in a run like the coastal maine trip posted above. I'll plan to hit up one of the next monthly meets soon.

Not too many from CT i see. Recently I did a three day trip from point Judith RI. Following the coast west along the sound to fish the shores. Stopping every 1/2 hour and fishing for 3 to 5 hours. Only sleeping when tired. Definitely planning anouther outing like that this summer too.

I believe there are beaches you can camp on on the cape somewhere or maybe in RI. I'll be doing some research on that soon too

I'll be moving to Washington, CT in a couple of weeks. Looks like we'll be pretty close if you want to try to take a trip together.

We have home-base in close proximity to the Delaware River. Damn near in the shadow Delaware Memorial Bridge
