Soooo....My new addition will be joining us in a few weeks. My son is due mid July(i think hes gonna be early). I'd like to know if anyone here has any knowledge to share when it comes to overlanding with a new born. My daughters are older and have hiked and camped with me plenty, but not when they were babies. I'm not one to be all soft just because they are babies. I DO know they are babies though lol. Anyone here been doing this with their child since birth (or close)? Did y'all wait a certain amount of time before adventuring? Was there anything you thought was definitely a no go? Would you do it again?

Thanks!!

Depending on what kind of carrier you use outdoors get mosquito netting for it.

Just watch the temperature.

If you think back to wagon trains venturing west in the 1800’s I’m sure there were lots of babies born on the journey with rough roads, their overlanding. My two cents is stay off bone jarring trails and most important is make sure the wife is comfortable taking care of the newborn in the outdoors and share in baby duties. Congratulation.

The wagon train and old settlers was one of my thoughts also!! Plenty of folks did it way before we ever did and survived lol! But yes I agree with the jarring parts and keeping the wife happy!

We have a couple different carriers. I have an osprey backpack carrier and then theres also the regular hand held style carrier. I think we are also going to get one of those carriers that goes on the front of you. The hand held style we have covers for that will keep insects out, as for the Osprey it just has a sun shade LOL!! And yep, temperature is very important. Luckily shes a nurse and i come from a firefighter/ems background. Granted we have two completely different styles!!:tearsofjoy:

Many congratulations! My wife and I have adventured around with newborns before and it just takes a little extra prep work. My recommendations would be first and foremost to make sure you are comfortable, which may mean less nights out, using different sleeping gear and some extra packing, cooking and cleaning on dad's part. Bring as much stuff as you need to feel at ease with being away from home. As Bluegrass rules said above, be sure to take the trails slowly and carefully.

Good luck and have fun out there!

my son was in the bush literally a couple weeks after he was born. the best thing we got for outdoor travel was a "jeep" baby stroller- they can go just about anywhere and will leave all other strollers in the dust.
we also bought a 2-up seat for wifey's quad so he could ride from about 6 months....then his own quad at 3 yrs old. start them young and have fun!
