NEVADA – Spring Mountain NRA Seeks Public Input on Recreation Use in Lovell Canyon

The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Spring Mountains National Recreation Area is hosting two open houses to solicit input on the future of recreation use in Lovell Canyon outside of Las Vegas. Comments received from this public process will help create a long-term plan for the management of dispersed multiuse recreation for the Lovell Canyon Area.

“We want to encourage as many people to participate as possible,” said Area Manager Donn Christiansen. “The information gathered from these meetings will help the U.S. Forest Service determine what types of recreation uses are appropriate in Lovell Canyon.”

Two public open houses are planned for April and Forest Service recreation and resource specialists will be on hand to share information on Level Canyon’s current use patterns, safety issues, and answer questions. Anyone attending the meeting will be asked to fill out a questionnaire to answer the following questions:

  • What type of recreation uses do you think are appropriate in the Lovell Canyon area, and where should they occur?
  • What safety or access conflicts have you seen between user groups?
  • How could these conflicts be resolved (by changing locations of a use, how the use occurs, or some other way)?
  • If the Forest were to add more developed recreation facilities in Lovell Canyon, what would you like to see and where (e.g. parking areas, campgrounds, picnic areas, restrooms)?
The open houses will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the following dates and locations:

Tuesday, April 17, 2018

Wednesday, April 18, 2019
Bob Ruud Community Center
2100 E. Walt Williams Dr., Suite 100, Pahrump, Nevada, 89048

For people who cannot attend either one of the meetings, written, faxed, hand-delivered and electronic comments will be accepted until April 25, 2018.

  • Written comments can be faxed to 702-515-5447 or mailed to:

    Las Vegas, NV 89130

  • Hand delivered comments should be brought to the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area office, 4701 N. Torrey Pines Dr., Las Vegas, NV 89130. Office hours for submitting hand-delivered comments are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

  • Electronic comments should be submitted as part of the actual e-mail message or as an attachment in Microsoft Word, Rich Text Format (RTF), or Portable Document Format (PDF) and sent to htnfinfo@gmail.com.

I never heard about this until after the fact. It is now a done deal, and access and especially use, has been curtailed. Rode some trails in it just 3 years ago on a ATV.

BUMP......it has been almost 6 months, since this last post. This thread is pertinent for all of us who use the outdoors.
At least for now, the steam roller of activist closings, have been moved to a back-burner. Not gone, just slowed. IN 2 YEARS, who knows what will happen..
