Every year NEF hosts a toy drive in CT. This year we teamed up with Pete's Camp in Windham Vermont to get the off-road community together in the green mountains. Along with some great support from OEX, Ridgeback Guide Services, NE-OVEX, Wheelers LLC, Detours of Maine, the Mitsubishi community as well as some privateers who donated out of their own pockets, we have a great charity event for all participants.

October 27th kicks off the event with a Toy drive at Pete's Camp. This is a free event, but please read below.

9-10AM : We will be stuffing a cruiser or two from Vermont State Police. Donations will then make their way over to the USMC afterwards. We suggest toy donations in total value of $50 or more. Tickets will then be awarded via donation size, which can be used towards our raffle. I really want to make a statement with a massive pile of toys. Let's make it count!

10AM : Quick pep talk/thank you to all who attended, and then we kick off our raffle! This is one badass raffle to get in on folks! Everything from a two day OEX Training, to recovery gear, two different rear tire carriers, custom hand pinstriped art from our very own Sasquatch, to miscellaneous merchandise all provided by a host of sponsors within the off-road community.

11AM : Groups of 6 to 8 trucks begin to depart with their guides to designated loops. Each loop is designed around specific class 4 roads which have been singled out by Vermont Game Wardens, which we have been working with since this was all just an idea being kicked around the fire a few weeks ago. Each loop will be a combo of trails, dirt roads etc which hit one or two areas in need of a cleanup. Crews haul out as much as they can with their group, and work their way back to camp where we have arrangements made to haul the garbage away. To those that need to split, at this time you can start working your way home

Afterwards, your welcome to stay and camp overnight with us, before heading home on Sunday. Those of you camping, please provide a donation to Pete's Camp on your way out, to cover firewood etc.

I believe I speak for us all when I say Vermont has alot to offer, it's a resource which we need to respect so we can continue to enjoy it year after year. So come wheel with a cause, and join us for this year's event!

Looking forward to seeing those of you lucky enough to get a spot. Keep in mind space is limited. This will be a small tight group of approx 40-50 trucks max.

Vehicle requirements: True working 4 wheel drive with low range, tow points, and in safe operating condition. We don't want to be doing a trail cleanup while leaving an Exxon oil slick behind everywhere we stop.

Registrations will be swapable if you can't make it and have a spot, don't let it go to waste, be sure to post up a slot is available and it will fill fast.

We are less than one week away from our annual Toy Drive & Trail Clean Up which will be hosted in VT this year, and have 5 openings! Details can be found on our event page below. For an entry fee (your toy donations of $50 or more) you are automatically entered into a raffle which includes tire carriers, recovery gear, two day OEX training, gift certificates etc. And with an event capped at 40 people, chances are high that you will walk away with more than just a good time and some good karma. Afterwards people will head out into small groups and clean some of the trails we use year after year, while enjoying all that Vermont has to offer along the way. This event was made possible by our great sponsors, friends and supporters; Pete's Camp of Windham VT, Ridgeback Guide Service, Wheelersllc, Overland Experts (OEX), Vermont Overland, NE-OVEX inc, New England Overland Outfitters, Detours of Maine, Northeast Mitsubishi Crew & SpliceWorks, Lazz Mckenzie, Pete Stajduhar, SPOD, Lock-N-Roll Hitches, Livin' Country and TAM Inc.

Since the success of our charity run last month, we reached out to a few VT newspapers/journals to showcase how much our off road community can accomplish when we all come together. Unfortunately, they have been unresponsive.

So, here is our press release - written by our very own Jake "Sasquatch" Kal (the one who hand painted that beautiful saw for our raffle). Please feel free to share this - we encourage you to. Our goal is to help educate those who are unaware of how members in our wheeling community respect and take care of the land we have have come to love. Thanks in advance. And thanks again to all who joined us in addition to our sponsors/supporters; Ridgeback Guide Service, NE-OVEX inc, Overland Experts (OEX), Vermont Overland, Wheelersllc, SPOD, Lock-N-Roll Hitches, Spliceworks NE Overland Outfitters, Northeast Mitsubishi4x4 Crew, Lazz M, Pete S, Livin' Country and all of the individuals who braved the rain and snow to make this event as great as it was.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CT CLUB RIDS ROCKINGHAM WOODS OF YEARS OF ILLEGAL DUMPING

What originally started out as a plan to collect Toys-4-Tots for area children in need during the holidays, quickly evolved into a concerted effort to remove many years of illegal dumping from the trails in the Town of Rockingham, VT.

Last Saturday, October 27th, a group of 4x4 enthusiasts based out of Connecticut, who call themselves the Northeast Flatlanders, organized a meetup of fellow outdoor enthusiasts, to gather in Windham County and team up with the VT State Police to deliver truckloads of new, unwrapped toys to needy families. Early morning snowfall and cold temps greeted the nearly 40 assorted 4x4 Jeeps, Toyotas, and Land Rovers that hailed from CT, MA, and VT, all carrying toys for the cause. After an hour of coffee, handshakes, and conversations, a total of 3 VT State Trooper cruisers were stuffed to their limits with donated toys.

In an added effort to give back to the local community, the Northeast Flatlanders had contacted the VT Game Warden’s office to discuss cleaning up illegal dump spots in the surrounding woods. As 4x4 drivers and outdoor enthusiasts, the NEF off-road club had been disheartened by the amount of garbage they had seen while driving on Vermont’s scenic Class IV roads. The group was alerted to a location in Rockingham that had been the site of many years of dumping and neglect. After arranging to have a dumpster delivered nearby, the group moved into position and got to work. Collectively, they were able to haul out over 150 discarded car tires, several t.v. sets, mattresses, couches, and small mountain of broken snowmobile parts.

The Northeast Flatlanders would like to thank all of the volunteers that came out to deliver toys and lend a hand in the massive cleanup effort. They would also like to extend a debt of gratitude to LT. French and his fellow Troopers from the Westminster Barracks for helping distribute the donated toys, as well as VT Game Warden Isherwood for speaking to the group and coordinating the cleanup location. Also, a big thank you to Michael Hindes with the Rockingham Town Garage for his assistance.
