The Rim Rocker. 160 miles from Moab to Montrose. This has maps and GPS data. I am not 100% certain, but most people run this from Montrose to Moab. It is a big trail, so I'd assume you can run it from UT to CO.

Looks like they opened in June. This pic is from June 5 and they opened a week or so later. I am guessing they close around Thanksgiving (depending on how early snow arrives) which is when most San Juan trails close too.

Reading it, It looks like you could do it in one day. A long day, but one day. I think most break it up into 3 days. There are a ton of side trails, mostly on the Utah side that can be half day trips on their own. I am adding Wild Horse of Disappointment Valley to my trip in Sept. Its a half day out and back trail from Hwy 149.

This is the biggest concern overlanding at high elevations. It can snow any day of the year but if you camp at 8000' and it snows in August........... be prepared to be snowed in for a few days. If it snows in October, you'd better be prepared to spend 9 months there.

File your plans and check in with someone daily. Satilite Phone, Ham Radio, have a method to communicate.

More good info below.

BTW, I'm working on a Rally Point to run this and maybe White Rim Trail near Moab in one outing. We're still working on dates, but probably late Sept or October. Let me know if you're interested.

I may be in for this, depending on the dates. I have a jeep jamboree in Texas Panhandle on the 8-10 of Oct. Please update as you start to figure things out. Also, I pull a small trailer, see any issues on these trails?

Trailer shouldn't be a problem if you're accustomed to taking it off-road where it can be really bumpy. This is mostly 2WD except for just wanting low range.

I had a buddy pull his off-road camper over at least half of RR and it wasn't an issue. He did actually have a suspension problem, but it was from poor design and first time off-road with it.

We completed Rimrocker from Moab into Montrose 2 weeks ago in an 80 series and a 200 series. We were able to complete the trail in a day stopping for lunch and short breaks. The views are worth taking your time over 2-3 days, but if your rig is setup to handle it, you can probably blast it in a day. Have fun be safe good luck with your trip!
