Hello! Thought I'd introduce myself. I'm from Marietta, Ohio. I currently have a 2001 Nissan Xterra that I recently purchased and plan on building up into an overland rig. I had a 1997 Jeep Cherokee, 3"lift and 31s, nothing crazy that I planned on keeping, until someone decided to rear-end me going 60+ while I was doing about 30.

As you can see, the result wasn't the best, but I crawled out on my own. And was ok except for some neck and shoulder pain. Anyway, then replaced this with a 2000 Subaru Legacy wagon, which I had plans for a rather unconventional overland rig with it, until I decided I needed more ground clearance , and got tired of the little issues with it

Dolly Sods, WV

Enter the new rig.

Planning on outfitting this rig to go back in the Monongahela National Forest of West Virginia. Went therest for the first time a week ago, and fell in love with the area. I lived in Idaho for several years, but this place has me wanting to come back for more.

Anyway, hello again and hope to meet up with some of you on the road soon!

New to the group.

Names donnie and I'm from Lancaster ohio.

A little new to over landing persay but I have been trail riding since I was 13 or 14 in my own truck. With life, kids, and bills having an extreme offroad rig like in the past isn't really pheasable right now so I've been doing a little more.overlanding type offroading the last year or so. Venturing out from pay to play offroad parks and into the unmaintained roadways around the east coast.

Heading to the dbbb in KY next weekend.

Currently have a Ford bronco ii. It's a little bigger than needed for most overland experiences I think but it's purpose built so that I can still hit an offroad park and the tougher trails if I want.

It's on early.bronco Dana 44 and 9 inch with 4.88 gear, front and rear lockers. 35 inch wrangler mtr 9k winch, and has an Explorer 4.0 and 5 speed.

We did an overland trip through KY back in Feb and a portion of the trip was on what is now the DBBB. Really enjoyed that area, you should have a good time.

I have been to this area once before I have been to this lady area once before riding some of the tougher trails down there and we will be venturing onto some of those as well but the plan is to run the entire dBBB be too

Is that stump cave in the photo?

Sounds like a great time. One of the guys that was instrumental on getting DBBB going and completed was our trail guide when we were there and showed us a lot of fun areas. I look forward to going back someday. I was surprised how much I enjoyed that trip through KY.

Yeah, I believe that's what they called it. That's where we stopped for lunch.

I'm friends with one of the guys that are on the committee that is developing Hollerwood off-road park that is also in the area, the park isn't open yet but it is still ok to ride and it has a lot of them tougher stuff on it so we will be running some of that along with the bbbb and some other activities should be a really good trip

We did some of what will be Hollerwood as well. I wish more of that would happen in other areas with counties working together to develop parks where we can go.

Where you with the Ohio River 4wheelers when you went? I think I saw a video with an h3 in it in you tube.

I like seeing those oddball rigs out there.

I wheeled a kia Sorento all last year, but due to my own mistakes I went to deep in a water hole and drowned it, long story short I ended up roasting the engine and it just didn't make a lot of sense to rebuild/replace at the time so I sold it. Wish I still had it

I always worry that my rig is not ready - but I'll never find out if I don't try.

No, we have a group from down here that we do at least one annual week long trip with. It's a good variety of rigs and we have a great time. This year we happened to go several places in KY.

Yeah, that's a big factor on why I won't be getting rid of this truck. I prefer not to be just like every other rig on the trail that day and I don't think there is any way I will ever buy a Jeep. Nothing wrong with them and I do like them but I have run into the Jeeper attitude far to many times to ever buy one. Nothing wrong with Jeep owners, many of my favorite wheeling buddies drive Jeeps, it's just there are far too many with that attitude and they have turned me off. Of course that's one thing you don't run into here and why I like this site. I also love the looks on peoples faces as I go everywhere they say I couldn't go so that's why I am keeping it IFS.

I agree completely. I buy vehicles cheap and h3 aren't cheap yet but I was just saying a few months ago I'd bet I could take an h3 some places they shouldn't go if I could get in one.

The spring under in the back looks like it could cause some issues with clearance but other than that they seem.to be a good base

They definitely don't get the credit the deserve and are far more capable than people think. I've been wheeling them for over 10 years now and in that time have shocked a lot of people by what they can do. Most of the time I am wheeling with highly modified rigs and just follow along. Of course they can do some obstacles I can't and are willing to take on risks I'm not ready to do with the truck but it does very well even bone stock. I would say more often than not when I pass on an obstacle it's more a factor of me being careful than the truck can't do it.

I am currently running low profile spring plates/shock mounts but have everything in the garage to do a spring over. Just have not had time but hoping to get that done within the month. The front spring hangers for the rear leaf springs is a major catch point too. They made them twice as bit as they needed to be but that will be changed with the spring over as well.

They are getting cheaper (can find '06s for about $10K) but not cheap.

How is the line of visibility out on the trail I don't have a whole lot of experience with them but just from pulling them in and out of the shop I work at seems like there's a lot of blind spot, I get the same feeling inside an fj cruiser.

Like I said I think it's awesome that you're out there and you're actually using it,

Are you flhummer in youtube? That's where I saw the h3 wheeling. If so, not sure how I didn't run across you are ivy. I started riding that place in 2007.
