Hello,

New to the forum thing so please be patient. Hopefully I got this message in the right place.

My nephew talked me into this because I've spent years wandering around the backcountry in various vehicles or on foot, all across the country and some overseas. Didn't know it was called "Overlanding" until recently. I decided to join and see what it's all about.

I'm located in the Willamette Valley in Oregon.

I drive, currently, a 2016 Jeep Wrangler JKU. I was finally talked into a Roof Top Tent and that is what really started everything.

The pic above is from one of our trips to Moab, in Hawk Camp, on the Fin's and Thing's trail. Great fun that trip!

As for experience, well, I would say average/novice. Still learning and will probably always be learning.

Thanks!

Mike
Welcome to Overland Bound, @mikedave. That is a great looking JKU... "ADVENTURE!!" I love it! The Salem, OR area is just starting to get organized, thanks to @Roy & Kristin Zirpoli. In fact, there is even a Facebook page for the Salem area Overland Bound members [link]. I recommend checking out the whole Overland Bound NorthWest Region forum [link] for meetups and to get to know your “neighbors”.

Events are also posted on the Rally Point system [link], so you might want to check that out as well.

I look forward to seeing you out there! If you need anything, feel free to hit me up on the forums: @Jedi.

Hi everyone. New guy here. Californian now in Indiana that drove a lifted Subaru WRX as my AWD fun vehicle for 16 years that finally gave out on me last summer. Picked up a double cab long bed Tacoma Off Road next. I love getting out to nature and am turning it into my camper vehicle with a shell and bed and insulation and lights. I can't wait to continue working on it and getting it dirty.

Hey All! New to the forum and new to calling myself an 'overlander'! I've been in the off-road community most all of my life, starting on ATV's in 1988 when I was 4 and continuing that love throughout my entire adult life. Being from Washington State, building an off-road vehicle for tight and technical trails seemed required so I spent a few years truly off-roading with an XJ I built, and later a Bronco II with a 351 and 1-ton axles and a whole plethora of other things.

I currently drive a 2015 Ram Power Wagon and my wife has a 2012 JKU Sahara which we both daily rendering them stuck in near stock form. We're not into the extreme builds or rig busting we used to do, but clearly still have a passion for getting out where most choose not to travel. I am still very active in the local ATV community, but want to branch out and get back in to a different kind of 4x4 community which is why I've joined you all here.

We plan to run the WABDR in summer of 2019 and hope to use this community as a resource to plan our adventure! Lastly, I hope that I too can prove to be a potential resource for any of you in sharing posts and anything else. Feel free to message with questions, concerns, or otherwise!

Take care, all.

Greetings All, I'm Dutch from NorCal, New to the space and the hobby. First 'official' rig is this 1966 IH Travelall though I've done a fair bit of 'overlanding' in Humvee's over the years. The T'all is nearly three years in the making and one (spousal type) person might say I've gotten a little carried away. Ok, a lot. Looking forward to attending OE West in May of '19 to get some knowledge and training. I'm game for most anything outdoors, especially if it gets the kids of their screens.

Great looking Ram and JKU you got there @MindofManZaaR! I am glad to have you joining our community, as I am sure your experience will be very valuable to other members. Tacoma is a perfect location for overlanders with easy access to the Olympic Peninsula and the Cascades. Plus, the Overland Bound community in the South Puget Sound is bustling with energy.

If you are interested, and willing to take a little bit of a drive, we are having a NorthWest Washington meetup on January 19th at Ft. Casey [link]. There is also work being done to set up a recurring meetup in your area, [link] so that might be a great opportunity for you.

I recommend checking out the Overland Bound NorthWest Region forum [link] for meetups and to get to know your “neighbors”. Events are also posted on the Rally Point system [link], so you might want to check that out as well.

Hello everyone,

My name is Cory. I am from Delaware and looking to get back into camping/outdoor life. While I was in Australia several years ago I rented a campervan with 2 friends and enjoyed the freedom of vehicle camping from Brisbane to Sydney over 4 or 5 days. I am currently looking for a Tacoma to build up as a more "weekend toy" overland vehicle. I have been watching a lot of the Overland Bound youtube videos after I found out what overlanding was. I had previously looked into building a campervan but I enjoy the off-roading idea much more so I am looking to move in that direction. I would say my off-road driving experience is limited but I am looking forward to learning more.

Cheers!

Hello all,

My name is Ryan and I live in southeast Michigan. I have been doing a lot of research and reading on the overlanding and am just getting started.
We have two Jeeps and have started kitting out the Compass Trailhawk and have planned our first trip through Michigan's upper peninsula later this summer.
I look forward to getting more involved in the overlanding experience and learning as much as possible.

Location: Middle and North Georgia
Rig: 2002 Ford Excursion
I have been Off Roading (mostly Dirt bikes) and camping most of my life. Never really combined the two until a recent two week 2500 mile motorcycle trip (on a Harley) all over the East side of the U S. From Atl to Niagra Fall in a large loop. It included some camping and some dirt roads. very few highways. Soon realized The Harley was not the best vehicle for me, and started looking at dual sport/adventure bikes. My research has led me to Overlanding because my Excursion would work even better except it may be too big for some trails in the south east. The Ex is currently stock ( other than some minor motor mods). I have also been looking at possibly finding a smaller vehicle, but I LOVE my Excursion.

Good day everyone,

I am from the Bay Area and have a 2018 Toyota Tacoma. I also have an iKamper rooftop tent that I would like to sell. Rhino Adventure Gear suggested I make a post here advertising it and I was wondering what is the best way for me to do that.

Thanks!

Mike

Hey everyone,

Longtime lurker; finally pulled the trigger and joined the forum today.

View attachment 81283

I am from Northwest Connecticut. My rig is a fairly stock 2013 Toyota Tacoma DCSB TRD OR. I am fairly new to overlanding but do have some experience off-roading. I am excited about the idea of vehicle based exploring, and building the taco to suit those needs. Looking forward to being part of a growing community with some like minded people.

Greetings, my name is Colin. Been subbed on YouTube for a while and have lurked the forums off and on until my buddy @bawesomfels bought me a membership for Christmas!

I live in the middle of nowhere panhandle of Nebraska with my wife and two little kiddos (2 and 3 and a half). Not much out here but I'm only about a 4 hour drive from Denver and under 3 hours to Cheyenne, WY or Rapid City SD. I grew up in the Phoenix area and spent some time backpacking/car camping and working at summer camps in the Boy Scouts. After getting my Jimmy I loved hitting desert trails to explore and shoot guns. I'd say I'm pretty much a novice at overlanding, but with my kids getting older I'm looking forward to introducing them to the great outdoors.

Current rig is this '99 4wd Jimmy SLT that I've had for about 5 and a half years now. Until now it has just been my ultra reliable daily driver, but it's coming time to buy new tires soon... The plan is 31s and enough lift to clear them. So far I have added a tow hitch, one piece Bravada front axle shaft (eliminates the unreliable vacuum actuated disconnect), full set of Kevlar composite skid plates (front diff, oil pan, transfer case, and gas tank skids), LED driving lights behind the grill, and some other cosmetic mods. I love wrenching on things and tinkering.

Anyway I'm excited to be here and I'm looking forward to learning a lot and maybe meeting some of you in the future.
