I became aware of the idea of overlanding a few months ago. I love trails, the outdoors, cooking outside, etc., and gear, don’t even get me started on how much I love mods and gear.
I’ve never found a comfortable way to sleep though. I have back and neck issues. I’ve tried cots, air mattresses, etc. but my body is usually killing me after 2 nights and 3-4 hrs of sleep a night is optimistic. As minor as this may seem, it’s the issue that keeps me from taking the plunge v. dipping my toes in. I just went to an overlanding event in the Ozarks last week and really enjoyed seeing everyone's rigs and setups. Also had a chance to meet some great people.
So, I’m here to learn, first about finding a solution to decent nights sleep, then about gear etc. I am in the Oklahoma City area. I have 3 great kids 10-15 and an amazing wife, none of whom have a lot of interest in spending hours in a vehicle on the trail. They all love to hike.
I have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler with 3” lift, 35” tires, lockers, winch, etc. This has been the first year I’ve really had time to use it for it’s intended purpose. We did all the trails in Red River, NM, many of the trails in Ouray, CO and three offroad parks, SMORR, Superlift and Byrds. Let’s just say I’ve been making up for lost time.
Anywho, I’m happy to be here. If I can figure out the sleep thing, I’m really eager to the high water trail in the Ozarks and take some of the backroads through NM.
