I called my insurance company and asked them. They said I "could" get an appraisal but it's really not required. My policy says I get "replacement" or "replacement cost".
In theory, I expect it to go down something like this:
Ins: you truck is worth $12.75
Me: no way! It's worth at least $20k!
Ins: sorry. It's a miled out Toyota.
Me: fine. Replace it in kind. Here's a list of additions and receipts for the cost.
After several months of negotiation I'll probably get 20% of the parts, 0% of the labour and a replacement of a miled out Toyota.
At least I'm not bitter. [emoji23]
