We are going to Colorado, Buena Vista, Creede, and Cripple Creek areas. In the BLM and USFS areas are you allowed to camp anywhere or do you have to camp in designated campsites, there are several in Cottonwood Pass but we want to get a little deeper to be by ourselves. Would appreciate tips and advice.

Just got back from that area! There is a large area of National Forest 6 miles north of Divide Co. Take 67 North of Divide. It's also called County Road 5. Go straight on tht road for like 6 miles and that dumps into the Southern most staging area of Pike National Forest. Boat loads of free camping back there. Drive around and find any pull off from the road that you fancy. We drove about a mile in and passed at least 8-9 camp spots before we found one that we really liked!
