So I’m just wondering, did any of you replace your stock headunit / audio system in your rigs?

Was (again..) looking at some Landcruisers that are for sale but most really have those stock headunits with even cassette decks on them and no touchscreen or anything.

So I was wondering what it would cost to replace the whole system with a 2din audio/navigation system. Would look pretty neat and have all the stuff I would want including an option for my beloved backup camera :P. Wouldn't even be soooo expensive.. €500,- would go a long way in replacing the stock unit.

One of the first things I did was take out the stock head unit and upgrade it with touchscreen / bluetooth. I want to be as connected as possible - and somewhat hands-free.

Just took out the old JBL Navi unit for a new Kenwood touch screen, I wanted more connectivity too as all my music is on my phone. Also the navigation was slow and out dated, again I use my phone for that.

My daily driver has a stock head unit but I upgraded the head unit in my truck to one with bluetooth and a hands free microphone because those things did not exist in factory equipment in 2004. I am glad I did the upgrade and it was relatively cheap.. I think I paid $150 for the new head unit and I installed it myself.

I have a Pioneer SPH-DA120 (AppRadio4 w/Car Play) in the XK.

It works great.

One of the reasons I chose it was the lack of physical buttons for dust and grime to get into.

@RaggedViking was that supposed to be a link to a head unit?
Yeah, I don't know what the heck happened there:

This was really my only "need" when I picked up the 4Runner..
Until I NEEDED new springs, tires, shocks, control arms, rack system......

I opted for the pioneer avh-4200nex for my 80 series. lots of connectivity options, has instant switching between android auto and apple carplay. No built in nav but it mirrors your phone when you plug it in via the usb port. plays dvds for the kiddos. it was pricey though 599.99 bestbuy or amazon.

Yea, I've been looking at some HU options as well.. They really start at around €200 and go up to even a whooping € 1.700... All I really need is a nav, video in for the backup camera, bluetooth for the phone and... well FM radio :) wouldn't really miss a CD option (don't have that in my current Toyota Yaris anyway) and DVD's or anything isn't anything I would need.. so fewer openings as well :).
