Gulf States Trip

We are planning a trip from AZ to South Carolina. We can go anytime of year but thinking about May of 2019 or fall or 2019. Any off the beaten path gems out there anyone would like to share? We have a 2014 Earthcruiser so can't be too tight of trail but up for most anything. Would prefer to stay clear of tourist stuff unless its a bucket list item. Thanks in advance Brent
