IIRC, the batteries replacement cost for that thing will be starting around $15K. A friend has a KIA hybrid; the replacement cost for the big battery is more than the car's resale price.
Like anything, as soon as the demand goes up, someone makes them cheaper. Prius replacement batteries are under 2k. My buddies shop has replaced a few.
Haven't they been having blackouts there for decades?
Yea. Once it gets hot, the grid cant handle the air-conditioning.
I did some calculations about electric vehicles then rounded
down. If 50% of the population here had electric vehicles, the rolling blackouts could happen in the spring/fall also. Summer....you better have your own power source.
Our politicians are screaming for less dependency on gas vehicles due to pollution. No one will move forward on the power grid issue. The people here are happy not knowing the details and trust the government to keep them safe. The major power companies in this side of the states are trying to get fines implemented for people who have there own solar (they call it a tax). Their fighting any real improvements. One side is calling for electric vehicles and the other is calling for no modifications on the power grid. Gotta love it.
To top it all off, the data they show you about vehicle emissions is based on data from the 70's. Modern cars here produce almost no pollution. Anyone who lived here from the 60's can tell you about the air quality from then till now. Don't get me started on the wihole "alcohol in the fuel" thing....Gawd.
I would think I would be use to the diffrent political agendas by now.
