Steward I
The roof rack was basically following the instructions of a YouTuber who, like me, didn't want to spend over $1K for a roof rack. Like him, I spent $300 to make mine, not counting the FrontRunner wind fairing. It doesn't look sexy like company roof racks, but it is very functional and has been perfect for me. I kept my OEM roof rack rails to mount my roof rack to so I could use the channels to mount the rack. Then I ordered 8 extruded aluminum crossbars and had them tapped on the ends.
This is the past configuration of how I ran my roof rack. You can see the FrontRunner Wolfpacks on the roof. I would put 4 of them on the roof using the Yakima LocknLoad corner brackets and 2 bungie cords with carabiners. Now, I just put recovery gear on the roof rack, so the Wolfpacks go inside the 4Runner. Less climbing to the roof and no worries about a heavy roof / center of gravity.
