While I was changing a rear rotor, I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get the caliper off. I was prying at the brake pads, then smacking it with a dead blow hammer. Wouldn't budge. Finally realized that I had the parking brake on. DOH!
Been there... lol

I was replacing the fly wheel in my 1986 Ford Ranger and had to pull the starter out. Put the starter on the frame. A friend and I were putting the transmission back in place and having a little bit of trouble sliding it in, so we started moving it around a little to aggressively and the starter falls of the frame and landed on my forehead. 15 pounds dropping about 2 feet, will knock you bit silly.

Hood struts on my ram 2500.
Opened the hood, pulled a strut off on one side, hood slammed down on both of my arms and latched shut...i was on the passenger side of the truck. Screamed for my wife for about 10 minutes lol turns out she was bathing our son.
Oh same truck, backed into a 40° driveway, e brake set and nothing else, pulled the rear driveshaft off, truck ran me the fuck over. If it wasnt lifted i would be a blood streak on the driveway....needless to say i sold that truck the next week since appprently it wanted me dead lol

OMG.. Haha I laugh because I did ALMOST THE same thing on my ram 2500.. Except it was the drivers side and I only got one arm caught. I managed to pull very hard and get my arm out, because my wife too was inside and could not hear me. I had some deep scratches on my arm for a couple months... Glad I'm not the only one who's done it.

I was putting a new belt to get rid my old squeeky one. I left the wrench on the tensioner and started the truck. After ducking for cover after hearing noises like I was taking fire. I see coolant all over the floor. The wrench broke the fan, went through the radiator and snapped the new belt I just put on. So now anytime I start the truck after working on it I'll spend a good 10 minutes making sure I didn't leave anything laying around. Not fun going from a 25$ repair to a 350$ repair.

Ooh Crap that hurts
Being a supervisor at a heavy duty diesel shop I can definitely relate to this...

Yikes!!
Ive yet to do that but i definetly agree to check the area. Im an aircraft mechanic and we live by this. Thats also why are toolboxes are shadowed and stuff so its easier to find missed tools or equipment.

Put my '73 Blazer up in the air to change the brakes and rotors. Slapped a jackstand under both front corners and pulled the wheels. Got distracted by landlord needing me to move wife's car so he can pull tractor out of barn. Back up wife's car into Blazer and knock it off the jackstands. Diff and naked axles in the gravel.

I was crawling around under the Jeep while tightening up a few bolts for the brackets that attach to my rack bars that I noticed were rattling after a quick drive. In the process of blindly looking for a hand grab to pull myself out of from under the vehicle I grabbed the exhaust. Pointer, middle, and index fingers on my right hand were bubbled up for the next week.

I needed to change the u-joints on my truck so I pulled the axle without chocking the wheels. The truck started rolling with me under it but luckily it was a slow roll so I was able to just slide out from under the truck.

I was checking compression on a 96 4Runner we had and was using a 1/2" ratchet and socket on the crank bolt to turn the motor over. Forgot about it and fired the engine up. Made quite a racket and destroyed the plastic cooling fan.

On my old 68 camaro drag car I had just installed a new transmission and went to the track that weekend for some testing only I forgot to install the transmission mount. At 120mph it makes a hell of a noise and can cause a ton of damage.

Wasn't my current truck, but I was replacing the coil springs in my 67 Camaro several years ago... Going at it with a ball joint splitter while sitting cross-legged directly underneath the control arm. My knees were getting stiff, so I straightened my legs out, then took one more swing with the mallet. Ball joint separated and the control arm slammed into the floor of my garage, leaving a nice little crater where my shins had been just moments before. Can't believe how stupid (and lucky) I was!

I was home alone, and nowhere near a phone. I would've had to drag myself up two flights of stairs with two shattered legs to call for help...

When I was young, I raced Desert with my girl friends Dad , who was one of the founders of The Checkers D Racers club . Was working on my Husky, long story - short I got really pissed at something on the bike and slammed a Craftman's screwdriver down on the floor of the garage and had it hit the end and rocket straight back up and stick in the rafter just missing my head....Young and dumb comes comes to mine now...

Bridged my lovely Ti Seiko watch between the positive terminal on the battery to the fender on my brothers old 1st get focus while installing a turdbro. I had asked him to disconnect it initially when I started on the install. Lazily, I never checked to see if he had. The burn was soo bad I am scarred to this day(15+ years ago this happened?) and also fused three links on the band. I still have that watch and band and thankfully it is a kinetic motion model and still works. Someday I'll get a new band for it...

Lesson learned.

When I was 18 I rotated the tires on my truck, and forgot to torque one of them down. I went for a drive, and was across town when I felt and heard something terrible. I parked and found all my lugs being held on by one thread.

My last truck I was installing helper springs. Back of the truck was on jack stands, blocked front wheels, jack under the rear diff. I unbolted everything without thinking and nearly pulled the driveline out the back of the transmission. Took a long time to get everything back together and aligned right.

There are a lot of words of wisdom in here and teachable moments. I can only hope others read this, get a chuckle and are reminded safety is paramount.
