Landrover 90. Td5

Toyota Vigo. 2.7
Nissan navara 2.5
Toyota hilux. 2.5
Isuzu Utah. 2.5
Current. Isuzu utah 2.5
All have had a 2.5 diesel engines give or take , my dilemma now is the new isuzu only has a 1.9 engine due to the euro emissions , so my qestion is this will the smaller engine work harder to achive the the out put of the 2.5 and will it suffer and in the long run , Ive had disscusions with my dealer but as they want to sell product Iam dubius , i like the isuzu and all the current other makes dont do it for me.
All comment appreciated and i wont be offended by anything.

I like the concept of 'under powered over axled' especially for more offroad travel. Obviously thats not always effective if youre trying to cover larger obstacles but its a good theory to break less parts.

Is there an engine size limitation that requires Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) there? Here, smaller displacement engines can avoid the DEF systems if they can show emission compliance, at least a while ago. Things may have changed thanks to VW's 'diesel-gate' troubles.

Is that the reason that manufacturers are going smaller, to avoid using the expensive aftertreatment systems that larger displacement demands?

To answer your question, I ask a question which you probably have already discovered - what is the HP and Torque output of the 1.9 vs. the 2.5 family engines? OEM's are taking Torque a little higher and can accomplish with smaller displacement what they used to do with larger engines. There is a risk to longevity but diesels have a good reputation for life-span anyway.

And also, are you on the limit of your expectation of power? In other words, do you use 10/10ths of the torque offered by a 2.5L engine? If so, you may be disappointed in a 1.9L...
Test Drive should tell you what's up.

Dan.

Seeing how your in liverpool, have you looked at diesel land cruiser or patrol in 4 door or the short 2 door. I was looking at a diesel land cruiser already set up for ob in derby. Found it on Ebay uk for around 4,500.00 pounds. Good luck in your search you have so many more options than we do in the states, our cars and trucks stuck compared EU, AU and Africa. I was stationed in England and Germany, I miss my hilux and my jag.
