There is a good thread (link below) on this to take a look at if you haven't. I personally went with a Propex propane heater as I didn't want to hassle with another fuel source so I can't speak to the diesel ones.
Carbon Monoxide tends to be less of a concern with these as they are running outside away from the tent, and with the combustion air intake & exhaust being separate from the heat exchanger the air coming into the tent isn't exposed to carbon monoxide, but with that said I still keep a CO detector in the tent at all times.

For the most part, 5Kw and 8Kw are basically the same heater with software limitations in place so don't get hung up on these two sizes.
The cheap ones are mostly all the same but you'll start to see better build quality if you want to spend around 300+.
Go with Vevor if you aren't sure and want to stay cheap.
Hcalory and LF Bros are both improvements on standard cheap heaters. I lean towards LF Bros.

I have the 8kw Vevor diesel heater. I'm a truck camper and I installed it inside and plumbed it to my main tank. I have a propane/C02 sensor installed right next to it and by the tailgate incase the wind blows the exhaust back towards the truck. I have tested it and feel safe concerning C02 exposure. I dont have an updated picture but the one I uploaded shows where I installed the C02 sensor.
What I do know is this. The 8kw heater is overkill for my use case. I let it run for an hour on max with everything closed and it got to 112 degrees. I could have gone with the 2kw and been fine but oh well. With that being said, I like it cold when I sleep so I wont be using it as much as when my wife is with me. That means C02 issues are minimal. At least that's what I am telling myself.

I have carried many deceased victims out of their home from CO poisoning, it's a killer.
I run a CO detector near mine and it not a blip from it (venting exhaust to outside).

The detectors are cheap, I will hang one in my Roof tent if I get one.

I run a 2k vevor for my 5x8 square drop. Camped in single digits, and that thing will cook you out of the trailer.
No issues with CO so far, but the heater, and exhaust are outside the trailer, with the heat being ducted into the trailer.

I have to second what reaver said. I have a 5k Vevor and a square drop trailer. I mount the unit ten feet from my trailer, run aluminum tubing to dissipate heat, low fan and 15-20 degree outside, it's about 80 in the trailer. I now have an adjustable "Y" in the line to vent out heat.
With that aside, I've had it for a couple of years and its been flawless. I have a 2.5 gallon metal fuel can that I use for a fuel tank. Its good for a few days if its real cold out. I also have a heated blanket.
One thing I noticed when it comes to the China heaters. The heaters are the same, its the electronics that are diffrent. They all have 5-6 functions and normally only two work. Which two depends on which one you have. I've been told the latest generation have better electronics but, none in my group have a new one.
If you get the all in one, the thermostat is mounted to the unit. That just killed the possibility of having a temp control.
There's a guy in Germany who makes custom controllers. Don't remember who though. he does a break down on the electronics and only some are compatible with his controllers. Mine isn't.
My advice is don't buy the highest output if your in a trailer. if you have a tall tent, it wont matter, all the heat will be in the top. In my group, the RTT's do well with the 5k.
