One option is to do a quick day camp or overnighter locally. I have a spot in LBJ Grasslands that I've used a few times that is pretty good. There isn't any real trail fun since its pretty flat and just gravel roads, but the scenery is decent in some spots and its quiet. Its also close to DFW so it allows people the flexibility to just come for the day or stay overnight if they want. This might be a good option to get something regular going and then tackle more elaborate group trips.

I am all for actually planning trips and training. Want to go somewhere before it gets too busy with holidays and gets too cold. Maybe Nov. 2nd weekend. Rick and Down had good ideas. As they say, just get out there lol. Would be great to have some folks join for fun and company. Would just have to wear layers of warm clothes as high 60 that weekend.

I'd be down for either the grasslands or the Broken Bow area. Anything to get outdoors and get some more shakedown trips under my belt.
Sounds good! Broken Bow not too far.

Want to get out this year. Just go! Lol Grasslands or Broken Bow both sound good. We would want to camp at least Saturday night. We work other Saturdays this month so we would be up to go Nov 2nd. We are not major difficult rock crawlers anyway in at this point, but want to get started.

My spot in LBJ - just north of Decatur: 33.36154, -97.58916
I can't make Nov 2, but could do Nov 9, or Nov 16

We can make 16th in afternoon...say 5 pm then can camp overnight through Sunday afternoon. Can visit Saturday night and drive over the roads/trails there Sunday morning after breakfast. Watching You Tube to see area. A lot of dispersed camping so that is good!

Have to work first part of day then looks like takes 1.5 hrs to get there but won't take long to set up camp

I could probably swing 15th that night and part of the day saturday then I'd have to head home for work on Sunday morning.

Ok, I'm out for that weekend. I'll be hunting 11/9 and 11/23 weekends, and probably traveling Thanksgiving weekend, and squeezing another trip in this month isn't feasible.

I'm seriously bummed though, LBJ looks like fun.

Its ok. Not much to do on it really but its one of the only spots in our area where we can disperesed camp. The grasslands are ran by thr USFS.

I imagine it will be easier to meet for quick weekend excursions after holidays in addition to the monthly meet ups
