I have about 4 different lights on my Land rover discovery including ck engine lite. Previous owner said he had them checked out at dealers shop (cost him $250.00) and was told that any one of those light or all could be activated by a single censor of no consequence.
He said he drove it for two years with out problems, I have driven it for just over a year myself.. I'm pretty sure when I replace the brake light switch that most or all of the lights will disappear.
So much for the warning lights. I'm going to check out your info. I was told the scanners would cost around $300.00 by another LRD owner here on OB.
What I really need is a mechanic that knows his stuff. The one guy I had for 20 years died 3 years ago. Now I use his best mechanic who opened his own shop. He's not good at all with modern computers and has no scanners at all.
From what little I know about LRD, my professional SnapOn scan tool can’t read their system. So I doubt that the one I linked to would... unfortunately my scan tool mysteriously disappeared when my Dad sold the shop.

I’m waiting for a scanner to come in. Not a priority item at Amazon at the moment. Figure it’s a O2 sensor. I took the Jeep about 15 miles to get some medicine. When I got there the check gauge light was on as well. My oil gauge wasn’t reading. I went to a auto parts store and got 2 qts of oil. The dipstick didn’t register before the 2 qts of oil. The check gauge light went off and I watched the oil gauge go down. Looked like the side of the Engine has oil on it. Next time I lift the hood I’ll take pictures.

How long since the last oil change ? Did it take both cans of oil ? Did two quarts fill you up ? How often do you physically check your oil ?
Where you park is their oil on the ground of drive way ? I hope you meant that you watched the oil pressure gauge go UP, not down.

Last oil change I believe was about 3 months ago. Vehicle probably has been driven less then 200 miles. No oil under the vehicle at the house. I put 2 qts in and it took both of them. After I put the oil in the oil gauge went up while idling. Under power the pressure was good then when I was close to home I noticed the oil pressure going down. Then when I pulled in the driveway it dropped to not registering while driving. The Jeep sat for a while. I only use it around town at the moment. I’ve been bad about checking the oil but when I take it out it’s only about a 3 mile round trip.

Do you have oil in the radiator ? Is the tail pipe clean and oil free ? What did you find when you looked under the hood ?

There was no oil in the radiator, the tail pipe is clean and oil free. Looks like there is oil on the side of the engine. Engine is running good there is no knocking and not running rough.

Last thought, did you change the oil or did you have it done by a service center. It is possible it was never filled to begin with. My people always come show me the dip stick and tell me how much oil it took. It wouldn't be the first time something like that happens.

What does the tail pipe look like? The 4.0 is known for low compression

I had the oil change done at a dealer. They have done quite a few changes for me with my Ram. It is possible that they didn’t fill it all the way .

That is a good point. However, I think it should only account for one missing quart. The 4.0L takes 6 quarts. The standard, if there ever was one, was 5 quarts.

This is a automatic. Hoping my code reader comes in soon.

Ran to the store this morning and on my way home my check engine light came on. Jeep is running ok. Does anyone know of a trick to find the code? I don’t have a code sensor. At some point I know I’ll need to get one.
Have you tried re-seating your gas cap? I have received a few of those "evaporative system" codes over the years and typically re-seating the gas cap is the fix.

I did try and reseat the gas cap. Maybe I need a new gas cap. It is a old vehicle.

What if they only put 5 quarts in (thinking that's all it needed) and failed to check it after the engine ran leaving 1 qt in the filter. That would leave only 4 qts in the engine and 2 quarts short.

4.0 is six quarts total. That includes a filter change.

Which side of the engine has oil on it, could be a loose filter. Or 2 filter o rings stacked.
