That will happen eventually. There is an app called GPS Tracks($3.99) that has a similar feel. Problem is it costs $19.99 year to get any type of topo maps. Otherwise it’s Apple Maps only and you can’t download anything offline. For that fee Gaia would be a better choice.
You might also consider Topo + but again more robust maps cost $$$.
I've tried Apple, Google, and Waze in NM. They mostly work, by I've had issues with them routing me over "state highways" that were really dirt roads - passable in my 4runner, but a Camry would never have made it. Some of the roads it used are even closed several months a year for weather. Definitely worth using a little common sense with any mapping software.
Yes some common sense is need. The wife’s Lexus when coming from Pagosa Springs to ABQ will take you down hwy 84 to Tierra Amarilla and then want to turn you on hwy112 which most of it is dirt/mud and go over to hwy550. After you pass hwy112 and keep south on hwy84, it will take a while and update/recalibrate and take an hour off your ETA
