If it runs out of juice on the trail, you need a tow truck or a helicopter to extract it. With a gas SUV, you can carry as much fuel as you want. Not so with electricity.

That’s the whole reason we don’t have readily available hydrogen cars. Gasoline is a very efficient and safe way to store and transfer energy. Most other means of powering vehicles are not.

Wonder how long it would take for someone to drive this thing from southern Arizona to Fairbanks, Alaska with stops for charging? I mean, I can refuel my diesel in about 5 minutes and then head off for another 400+ miles, but charging batteries?

I'm hoping someday that will not be a question asked. Once the real issues get resolved, it's a great platform (not the Hummer, just EV in general) with so many upsides.
"Someday", sure. Just like we no longer need to ask "is it practical to daily drive an EV" anymore. But for now, it's a very relevant questions. Range anxiety sucks... range anxiety REALLY sucks if you're miles and miles off-grid in an EV.

30 min for 80 percent charge on a level 3 fast charger. Big deal. have a piss, eat a sammich or burrito and relax for 15 min. Gone again. the last 20 percent in an EV is slow charge to condition and preserve battery life. 80 percent charge on most good ev is 350 miles

Well. you really can charge via solar...it will take a while. but it does work. So if you had two suitcase panels, you could take a day and charge the rig to about 40-50 percent. in a full day charging and not using the vehicle.

Coming to Motor Trend Magazine in 2023: Battle of the E-SUV/Truck. Featuring -

Bollinger - Disappointing price point. I am number 241 in line from their initial offering for purchase. They pitched the simple farmer buying a gas station to build and design before moving to Detroit. From day 1, affordability to buy and affordability to maintain were they key highlights. Not so much now.

Hummer - I had an H3 a few years ago. Loved it. More drivers side seat room than my JKU. Electric? Interesting to see how the curb weight of the new vs the old is compared. Power, no doubt, but if curb weight is huge, how long can that power last pushing 2.5-3 tons of weight around town?

Wrangler PHEV - More info coming later in 2020 with delivery in 2022 on all Jeep platforms. Mall crawlers unite!

Rivian - Ultimate urban assault vehicle... if you can afford one. Or even get one?

Tesla - The future of styling is here twenty years early. The fact Elon is driving it around town for urban reliability tells me it must be doing OK. Of the 5, thus far, this is the one I am most likely to buy in the future.
Tesla truck is BFU. F150 is miles better than that heap.

Hummer uses around 200 kWh battery. Using a 500 W solar panel, which is big, it takes 200 hours to charge to 50 percent. That’s not one day. That assumes 100% charging efficiency, which is not the case. If you are camping in the woods and don’t have full on sunlight, you are gonna take weeks to charge for any decent range.
