We went here just this last weekend as part of our romp through Death Valley. I'd seen the pictures and the videos online but its even cooler than it looks. Its not a huge area, but its also big enough to have a lot of fun. Like stoney 126 mentioned, its not all that difficult of terrain while still being fun to explore. You'll also never be all that far from other people but the rocks mask them most of the time. Did I mention this is a fun place? This is a fun place and its only about 10 minutes away from Lone Pine.

Ya the town is of lone pine is great. Stop the visitor center, some neat stuff in there. And the cafe is pretty grubbin

Next time you guys head up to Cerro Gordo from Lone Pine you might try the Swansea Road rather than the Cerro Gordo Road. It's a bit more challenging but a lot more scenery and you go past a few cabins and the Tramway.
