My wife has found a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that she loves, problem is it's not a 4x4, however I never plan to do any serious off roading, so if I equipment it with a rear locker, and a winch, I believe I could do most trails. What are y'alls thoughts.

I know a 4x4 would be best, but could I make this work?

The above posters are correct. If this is an insane deal you can’t pass up, go for it. However, that thing better be dirt cheap because the demand for a 4x2 Wrangler is almost nill. It probably started it’s life as a rental vehicle too. Just beware and understand if you ever change your mind, it will be difficult to get rid of. If you’ve never owned a Wrangler before, you’re probably going to want to do some more serious off-roading once you find out what they can do and how much fun it is. If you can find a 4x4 she likes that is in your budget, I would spend several thousand more to go that route.

I’d keep shopping, you’re going to spend the difference trying to make it a mediocre off-road vehicle at best when a stock base model 4x4 jeep with zero mods with will be 10xs more capable. There’s tons of jeeps for sale out there.

For her it's the cool factor of driving a Jeep, remove the top and doors and drive it. I'm the one who noticed it wasn't 4wd, I've owned several 4wds over the years, and hardly ever use it, I just don't get into the areas were I really feel it's necessary.

Good News! We bought the Jeep and apparently it's an easy upgrade to covert a 2wd JK to a 4wd!! Just need to find a totaled JK to get the parts or build it from the ground up.
