Since my wife and I have purchased our Patriot, we have been planning and determining what will work best for our family of 5. I know alot of people start with lift and large tires, however, this is also a daily driver. I started with tires. Falken Wildpeak at3w's. I have a history with them and absolutely love them. For us , the next obstacle was storage. In order to give the kids space in the back and still be able to take what we want with us on our trips we installed a roof rack and picked up some containers. This last weekend, I even had the opportunity to theo on some lights. Looking forward to the next installs.

Nice. Lots of people underestimate these little vehicles.

I didn't know the Patriots had a 4wd lock, that's cool. Is there anything that helps with engine braking? I will say that's the only thing I dont like about my Escape, it doesn't engine brake very well. It would be cool if it had a hill decent mode.

I dont believe ALL patriots come with the 4wd lock. From my understanding, it's not a TRUE locker. But it's a better option I guess. No engine braking. However i can switch it to manual mode and turn off the stability control and traction control for more control.

I locks the ECC (Electronically Controlled Clutch) in the rear driveline to give you a 50/50 torque split like shifting a Transfer case into 4 High. Well sort of. If the system detects driveline bind in a turn it will momentarily release the clutch then reengage it.

They also have Freedom Drive 1 and 2. In Freedom Drive 2 you get a "low" range but all it does is makes the CVT stay at it's lowest "gear" and they combine that with a lower final drive ratio than the FD1 to simulate having a low range.

Honestly, unless youre in serious stuff not having a true 50/50 split isnt that big of a deal, it just becomes very nice if you lift whee off the ground. But if you know your vehicle well, theres always a work around.

I used to have a patriot. I am into a Compass Trailhawk now and i Actually don't like driving it as much as to Patriot. would still have it if it wasn't a write off. I have a Wrangler for more agressive trail use, but I do a lot of back country camping and usually a few hours from where I live/work ( not cost effective to drive a 14 year old Jeep on 37" tires) and I do winter camps with a few buddies from college every year. it was always able to get me where I needed to go and even dragged out my buddy's Ranger once ...
