    New Scout: No discussion?

Since they are building this HUGE facility just across the interstate from my house I see a good bit in the news about the goings on. Certainly is blowing up this little town. Production is schedule for 2027. Guess I'll be ready to sell out by then since my property value has about doubled...

    Central Alabama! Roll Tide!

I did pretty much the same thing before I retired with the rig I have now. Mine is geared toward getting in AND OUT of remote fishing spots. Just depends on what your goals are and how comfortable you need to be. Maybe a few other minor parameters.

    Central Alabama! Roll Tide!

I have found that overlanding is a great way to spend one's retirement income. The choices are unlimited!

    Professional movers

I might get a U haul to move personal and delicate stuff, important papers, the kid. Check recommendations online. Sorry to hear of your demise and subsequent relocation. Get a good coat, here it's windy and cold up there. Guess there is always ice fishing?

Essential Tools and Gear for Overlanding

He who travels fastest travels alone. Weight is often the determining factor in physics. Hunger erases all fear. Trout don't live in ugly places. That's all I got.

5lb. propane tank - get or skip the one with built in gauge?

I think that is the tank I have with guage. Been working fine for several years now. Do wreck or mend. Also, have it secured with a Monkey Fist?? One of those rubber straps.

    Colorado Trip Help

Talked to a nice BLM young lady today at my campsite up on a tributary of the Salmon R., Idaho. I had a good idea that I was on BLM land but there was no signage that indicated it was actually a designated campsite as it was. She gave me BLM map and FS map. We had a nice conversation and I...

    Colorado Trip Help

Not specific to Colorado but my method is to search google maps in the area I am looking to explore. Scroll in to get details and then look at the satellite view to see what else it looks like. Streams show as blue lines. Looking at other maps can give additional info on terrain, etc. I am...

cleaning cooking wear during and after a trip

Cast iron, particularly Dutch ovens, I learnt some stuff a while back on a week-long river float on Fork of the Salmon River. The guides prepared at least one, sometimes two big meals per day in multiple Dutch ovens. They ALWAYS lined them with parchment paper. Saved much cleanup. They had...

US Southeast Spring Fishing at Cape Lookout

Very tempting! Have a Dr. appt. but that could be changed. Been to Hatteras several times an always wanted to check out Lookout. Have to get the beach driving permit from NPS??

He lives next door. Wouldn't hardly recognize him these days since he changed jobs and went off of undercover work with the sheriff's dept.

George Washington National Forest Dispersed Camp Sites

If it's just me, I don't mind taking chances if I have good maps and time to do some scouting in an unfamiliar area. If I have other people that I was planning with and for I would be inclined to have a spot reserved for that first night at least. Also, During mid-week not so many others around...

George Washington National Forest Dispersed Camp Sites

Probably headed up on Jackson River in April. Son wants to turkey hunt. I probably just fish. Found some sites looking on google maps. Been to many NF out around the Rockies and every forest is managed differently as far as access and rules for dispersed camping. I generally map an area and...

    Any Hunters Among Us

Eh, don't hunt so hard anymore. I like to bird hunt some and put occasional deer in the freezer. Just bought a 20 ga. single shot turkey gun with a green dot scope. That tungsten ammo supposed to be the thing. Gun is really lightweight so hoping that will help me keep up with my son. He likes...

    New 2024 Taco OffRoad

Yeah, I don't worry too much about mpg as much as making it back home. Fully overland trip loaded at 70+ mph I get 13.5 mpg. Pulling a 4K lb. boat and trailer 8-9 mpg. Maybe 10 if running 50 mph on the level. I just unloaded everything to put it in the body shop for a little deer collision...

    New 2024 Taco OffRoad

I here ya. Turnt 70 myself and still do pretty much whatever I want but sure not getting any easier. Anymore I usually just have someone else do the heavy lifting, etc. I have a '17 Taco. I've taken it to the Rockies twice and many other destinations. Very capable and dependable ride...

    outfitters in south carolina

Don't know what's in that area. Probably anyone that advertises working on 4WD will have some working knowledge of other off-road gear. Over towards Conway or down towards Georgetown maybe. Plenty of country boys around that can rig most anything.
