    Puncture Repair Kits

In over 20 years of wheeling a LandCruiser I’ve only had two flats on the trail. Both broken valve stems. Colby valves are awesome and make short work of that repair. I’ve only had to plug tires from street punctures :(

    Need help choosing tires

Toyo is a great tire and often comes at a premium price. I ran a set of MT’s with little issue. The RT is an excellent tire. For your original posted service needs I’d stick with an AT or hybrid. The hybrid generally gives you the sidewall design of the MT with a more friendly less aggressive...

Difference between Delorme and Garmin Inreach

I have not dig deep but understand the differences between the mini and larger models are just that. The mini needs to be paired with another device to get the most from it. Something I always do with my larger InReach anyway. And the mini’s battery life has been reported as shorter. Seem...

    Roof Top Tent advice

You should define “family” we have one child some have 8. In my experience of owning a couple tents, best to subtract one person from the size rating for actual comfort. Otherwise expect a backpacking tent like experience with respect to space.

    Endlich Mesa #597

I choose this road as it is where I have gone for the last decade to harvest firewood. I’ve been picking up trash all that time so I figured I might as well make it official. It’s also very close to my home. Other than that the road is not really anything special. It climbs the mountain for...

What to prioritize when buying recovery gear.

Fire Extinguisher - I prefer Halotron Tree Saver Snatch strap matched to your vehicle weight 3-4 shackles Pulley Block Shovel/Axe After than you’ll figure out what else you need. A 2nd tree saver can be helpful, winch extension line. Deadman anchor. Come along or hand winch. All comes down to...

    Smittybilt overlander mattress

I added Exped inflatable mattresses. Getting ready to ditch the original RTT mattress all together and probably just lay down some dense 3/4” foam under the sleeping pads for the area that lacks coverage from the pads and for during setup/tear down. Should also give me more space when folded...

Need Suggestions: Roof Top Tent Heights (while CLOSED)

Hard to point you any direction without that magic height figure. My Eezi-Awn is about 2” shorter closed than my old Tepui. Hard to say which one I like better. Both have strengths and weaknesses. The Eezi-Awn is a clear winner in the quality of construction category.

    Mattress

Exped air mattress. I use this one in my RTT. MegaMat Lite 12 LXW Many sizes to choose from. Had the “luxury” mattress with memory foam from Tepui. The Exped is much better.

    Essential Solo Overland Recovery Gear

For solo travel traction boards are probably the most useful recovery item. Chances are you need to go backwards to get out and a winch generally is mounted on the front. I’m not a fan of receiver mounts. That said I’ve used my winch solo probably more as my Maxxtrax have often been at home...

    Roof Top Tent Advice

In my experience this is not realistic unless you and the wife are way below average in height. The slope of the tent prevents it.

    Roof Top Tent Advice

Had a Tepui Autana 3 with family of 3. It was too small once boy hit 8years old and wife instructed me to get a larger tent. Now we have an Eezi-Awn series 3, 1800. Going from 57” wide to 71” made a huge difference. Still cozy for 3 but much better. In the coming years I’m sure the boy will...
