Do you have a year preference? The 1st gens (00-04) are awesome rigs with huge potential, but a slightly limited aftermarket. The vg33 engine is a bit underpowered but it’s reliable and can run forever. 1st gens, and Xterras in general for that matter, are very overlooked but are extremely...
91 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. Bought it when I turned 16. I took it on tons of trails in Colorado, camped out of it for days on end. And it ran 13s at Bandimere speedway. I’d have to find some Polaroid pics of it that I have stored away. That was before digital cameras, smart phones and memory cards.
Well, I put 200 miles on it today. Drove to the beach with my wife, both of my kids and both dogs. Averaged 18.5mpg (mostly highway with a headwind), did some 4wheeling on the beach as well. For my particular family, this thing is a perfect fit as a DD and overland rig. This is withthe stock 29”...
Today I traded in my daily driver 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk for a 2018 Jeep Wrangler 4-door. The Cherokee was cool but just didn’t have enough room for my kids, wife and I. I’m very happy with my new JKU and although it’ll be my primary DD (Xterra is my primary overland rig), i still plan to...
Thanks!! I’m stattioned at Ft Bragg, originally from Colorado. I’m not much of a fan of NC. The humidity during the summer absolutely wrecks me, and the outdoor scene just isn’t what I was hoping for 3-4hr drive just to get to the mtns). I guess I grew up spoiled in Colorado and having the...
Do you have the supercharged version? If so, make sure your knock sensor is taken care of. It’s a very common issue with these trucks. You have to remove the upper and lower intake manifold to get to it as well. Kind of a PITA. You could always bypass it if you don’t want to, but some people...
Welcome, from another Xterra owner (2001). Definitely got with the shrock and winch. Are you also up to date on maintenance? Timing belt and water pump are mandatory on the vg33’s in the 1st gen Xterras.
Also, 1st gen Xterra choices are pretty limited when it comes to lockers. ARB air lockers...
Installed some new shackles on the rear of my Xterra. Tomorrow I’ll crank the Tbars up a little more in the front to get it all even. Results in about 3” of lift all around. Contemplating sticking with the 32s that are on it or upping to 33s.
Also going to install my HAM tomorrow.
I don’t have any height restrictions but I really don’t want an overly huge antenna on my rig. I’ll look at that 1/4 wave antenna. Thanks for the recommendations!
Hello all,
So I am currently studying and going to take my Technician license test at the end of January. I recently bought a Kenwood TM-281A HAM radio and am looking for antenna recommendations. I’m really still trying to learn all the ins and outs but Commo has never been my strong suit. But...
Time and geographic location. Eastern NC doesn’t offer much of anything in terms of overlanding and outdoor activities. To get to any type of terrain that is enjoyable it’s about 4-5 hrs drive one way. I’m in the military so I don’t have a lot of free time and when I do I spend it with my wife...
If you were asking me....yes I did all the install myself. Did not install a winch today though. That’ll probably sometime next year. Overall it wasn’t hard...the torsion bars were a bit of a pain but I ended up winning with the BFH! Lol
Got my ARB front bumper, new and stiffer Torsion Bars, rear diff breather kit and made an appointment for an alignment on Friday. Long day but it was fun!
Discovered both lower ball joint boots are torn though. That’s a heck of a job on my rig.
