Hi-Lift: How many people NOT running them?

I'll carry mine when it's just me or a small group and no one else has one. But, in a large group and I know at least one person will have, I'll leave mine at home. I always carry my bottle jack/jack stand thing though.

    Entertainment?

I'll mirror what others have said. I usually have a book with, usually some kind of nature writing, field guide or local things book, but, being a middle child and having a hectic job that has people coming at me all day, I can just sit for hours. Another thing I've done is use the time to...

    Vehicle Security Tips

Another thing, those if us with a ham license, DON'T put your call sign on any signature on forums. A quick Google search gives anyone in the world your address.

    Vehicle Security Tips

This. I purposely keep my garage doors closed when I am working on stuff when possible and I also have kept the inside looking rather run down so, passing by it looks like a shat hole inside.

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is Ready to Rumble

doesn't have the better axles, no lockers, smaller tires and soft top... no good...

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is Ready to Rumble

hmm... nice, but price point is a major driver for fleet vehicles. That's why you see so many 4 cyl Nissan frontiers at parts stores vs Tacomas. same truck is a few bucks cheaper. I can see fleet managers looking at specs and then seeing the $$ and comparing it to the big three's full size rigs...

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is Ready to Rumble

Pretty much all of this. While I bought my Frontier Pro-4x used (3 years old) it only cost me $23K.... Looking at a gladiator, that would leave me $30 some thousand left in my pocket. And to be completely honest, I think the proportions on the Gladiator and it's looks at certain angles to not...

    Lockers

Do you daily drive your truck in the winter at highway speeds? I'm not a fan of LS and auto locking differentials if you are in an area with snow. I've had more than one truck with a LS that tried to kill me in the winter at speed due to the back end wanting to walk out in slippery conditions...

    Coffee Set Ups

I'm a "set it and forget it" kind of guy, so I normally just leave it sit until the next day so I just go with a coarse grind. I'm no fan of the flavor of instant, but you can't beat the convenience, that's why I'm planning on trying this on the trail. Best of both worlds? I have seen the bag...

    Coffee Set Ups

While I haven't yet used it for camping, I just recently started making cold press coffee using a Toddy cold press coffee maker. Since it tastes so smooth, I've actually quit using the drip maker at work and just bring a mason jar full of the cold press and keep[ it in the fridge. I just pour a...

Why ham radio vs cb radio??

When I had a Baofeng handheld and a mag mount antenna, I was able to hit the local repeater more than 20 miles away down in a valley. Night and day difference with an external antenna vs the rubber duck.

Do you keep your jerry cans on your rig all of the time or just when wheeling?

I built my brackets to easily bolt/unbolt from the bed of my truck as I only carry on trips I know I'll need / want extra fuel. I used a Smitty built holder and bent up some brackets to bolt to the cargo rails .

New CB antenna, not sure I like it.

That's where I have mine mounted on my Frontier. I run a 2' stick for daily use (fits in most parking ramps and also my garage) and I keep the 4' stick behind the back seat for if and when I need some more range.

Difference between Steel vs Synthetic Winches?

I've heard that some or most of the heat issue comes from using the winch to back down something and not so much from winching forward. The main thing as far as the fairlead goes when going from steel to synthetic is to make sure there are NO burs from the steel line as that will quickly damage...

    Cook set or Camp Table?

Gun to my head, if I could only have one thing it would be my cookset. I can prep and eat on the tailgate. I've got the Stanley cookset. I love how it all packs in to the pot. https://www.stanley-pmi.com/shop/adventure-base-camp-cook-set-4x

Just so the "regions" aren't too large. Ohio is still "Midwest" but a full days drive for me in MN.

FUELLY: AUTOMOTIVE MILEAGE AND MAINTENANCE TRACKER

I've used Fuelly for a few years now. It does help to set Mileage reminders for oil changes and to log when a repair is done. It's nice to be able to track tire rotations or remember the mileage you threw a set of pads and rotors on your rig.

    Cold weather sleeping bag recommendation

I'll piggy back off the modular bag idea. I have a Coleman 40 degree bag that I added a fleece bag liner to. I'm able to use one bag all summer with the liner under me and using the liner bought me a solid 10+ degrees of warmth. I've had id down to around freezing and been plenty warm.

    Overlanding with an infant?

While I have no kids, I have two sets of friends who upon their first time or two out did a "test run" quite close to home. We all chose a county campground within 1/2 hour of their house. It made it simple to "dump and run" if need be. Once it was useful as a certain item was forgotten and once...
