Oh I'm really eager to make it to camp this time. Last year (first week of July) it was still snowed in on both sides of the trail just before the camp spot. We ended up setting camp 1 mile from the Bear Hunters Cabin. It will be me and the two kiddos.

Right now it looks like I won't be able to leave the Bay area until the afternoon on Friday. Target is to get to camp before sundown. I will probably stay until Sunday.

No legal method for open fires. The only thing you can use are campstoves and lanterns, even for that you need your CA fire permit.

Thanks for the bulkhead connector link I will look into that. Where would I run the bulkhead of wires .. would I still run them down the windshield? Or is a hole still required on the roof for the bulkhead connector?

yup that's what I did. So far so good, but I didn't like how it still swiveled slightly.

Option1: I like the printed ball adaptor which utilizes the quick release. Option2: I found that RAM Mounts base attachment with ball ... that MIGHT work. Need to check the Kenwood backing mounting holes. For now I used my RAM Mounts phone holder ... fits quite well. This will do for now and...

Great I was able to get a new Campfire Permit. The permits expire on Dec31 of that calendar year. Like @PapaDave mentioned, I also keep a digital copy on my iPad and a hardcopy in my glove compartment.

I DLd the iPhone Echolink app, did the verification process and was able to save *USA-GNG* to my favorites list; did a quick PTT trial. Seems like you have to tap to 'Transmit' then tap again to 'End Transmit'. Will try to get on the Friday OB HAM Radio weekly net. Will be reading up more on...

I do see WFA provided by REI near me. SportsBasement also offers it, but it's all the way in Presidio.

I want to take a WFA training as well. Where did you take yours? Good reminder on the CA Campfire permit. I got one last year not sure if it’s annual or if I need to reissue another one for 2020.

Passed my HAM technician on 12/10. Currently using HT Baofeng UV-5R. Researching Yaesu/Kenwood/ICOM mobiles with dual band, APRS, and remote head unit features. Need to read up more on HAM repeaters in my area as well as getting on echolink. KN6GLP
