Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Well my family just took a quick wkend trip and found ourselves at Clear Creek BLM area entering from Coalinga Rd. We paid our $5 at the drop box and settled at the OakFlatCG since the dispersed area at the JadeMillCG was occupied by trucks/dirt bikes.
So the closed gate at JadeMill peaked my...
This sounds like another epic trip. Have fun be safe .. I had to bail out since we couldn't get the Friday off, being that it's right after the Monday long weekend. Might be at Usal during the long weekend .. weather permitting.
We had a great time despite the ashes falling on us Saturday evening at the Hermit Valley area. Sunday we took the paved road from Hwy88 to Blue Lakes and made it ~15mins past the first creek crossing on Deer Valley Trail. We turned around because of northbound traffic and we wanted to set camp...
@Mr. Fixit
Thanks for the great feedback. I’ll be with one Jeep on 35” full lockers, but the other Jeep is on 33” open diffs.
The plan now is Corral Hollow Friday, hang out Lake Alpine Saturday, then make our way to Markeville on Sunday and loop back to Deer Valley trail via 88(Forrestdale)...
@Sierra Bound Corral Hollow should not be a problem for you. Take it easy on the Bear Valley (East)side Going up; it took me just under 1hr to get to the camp spot. The route on the west side which passes by the Bear trap cabin is 11 miles, easier and scenic, but takes longer to get back to 4...
Hi guys. I’m running 255/75/17 (32”) with 3” lift and high clearance bumpers and rock sliders and rear lockers. Do you recommend I go into Deer Creek (Hermit Valley to Blue Lkes)?
I saw a full size Tundra make it in/out of Laurel Lk last year. There are several very tight switch backs, but the last one before the Lake is the tightest. It’s doable but best to have a spotter to guide you in making those switch backs.
The propane stoves, lanterns, fire pits, Including jet boils will work in high elevations (ie 10,000’)
What can sometimes have problems staying on are the propane Mr.Buddy heaters since they have built in low oxygen sensors. I camped at 10,400’ earlier this year and my heater shutoff a couple...
How was your trip to Monache Meadows? I believe I met you at the Corral Hollow trip.
I'm planning to head out to Monache 6/27-29. Maybe even get there 6/26.
(I meant 7/26).
Any pointers? I'm on the hunt for Golden trout. :)
@RubiRigo I might be slightly ahead of you as I plan to depart by 2PM latest from San Jose; but I'm also trying to be in Livermore area by lunchtime if possible and catch my last afternoon meetings from there. However, let's coordinate and exhange info anyways in case we end up syncing up and we...
@Budman will you be starting the trailhead on the Bear Valley side or on the Cabbage Patch side?
I'm assuming the Cabbage Patch side, which takes us past the Bear Hunters Cabin since you mentioned 13mi point to point.
