  • Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

    US Southeast Uwharrie Weekend Run

@JJbyrd A camp site has not yet been determined. It might be a good idea to start working on this, since we're getting close now. Arrowhead has RV and ground tent accommodations, most accessible to wheel chairs. @danwyandt You say that, but yours is a good several inches higher, and you've got...

    US Southeast Uwharrie Weekend Run

As we approach this date, let's all remember to be smart and come prepared! Bring YOUR OWN recovery gear, jack, snacks, water, air compressor, change of clothes, whatever else. I know this seems like common sense, but seriously, make a list and follow it. It will make your trip easier, and it...

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

An other factor that a great deal of people overlook, both amongst this community and others, as well as those outside the relevant community, is the fact that a community's needs shift over time. Supply and demand rules. For example, the massive electrical boxes and batteries and whatnot was...

    Overland Adventure NC

@MPG Overland If you find yourself on the coast, check out NC Hwy 12. It runs directly out onto Corolla Beach on the barrier islands. Passes right through Kitty Hawk if you go south. Awesome drive, but know about sand before you head that way, ha ha. You always see lots of sinking rigs.

    Overland Adventure NC

@MPG Overland Welcome to the forum! Hope you find the information here useful. Greensboro is a bit out from me, but if you have the time, I'll be running with a group in Uwharrie later in July. Check the Rally Points if you're interested. There's a lot of fun to be had in NC, every thing from...

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

@MiamiC70 Be nice. He isn't wrong. Telling us what we don't need is as unsolicited as telling us what we do need. My joke seems to have derailed this thread. Sorry to everybody whose notif's are being clogged with this thread.

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

@bgenlvtex T'was merely a joke; however, your closing statement (that there is no such thing as "nobody needs") is the statement that I believe is incorrect. Some things, truly nobody needs in order to overland (or travel in general). As I stated in the joke post, absolutely nobody needs...

    Help, I have Jeep envy

@MidOH You make good points. Stick with what works for you - unironically, I actually do find myself driving in circles, or half-circles at least, on tight trails rather frequently. SWB is indispensable for this. Maneuverability is for noobs? Why, then, carry scout vehicles? ATV's and bikes...

What's do you think the most impactful first upgrade is to a rig?

To be fair, the OP was asking about vehicle mods, not driver mods... It seems to be inferred that the driver already has common sense and an understanding of physics. If they apply these two as they drive, minimal further training should be required. (There is talk of a poll mentioning driver...

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

@bgenlvtex You happen to be wrong, although all of your statements are correct. Requirement: Wheeled Vehicle (a shopping cart or wheelbarrow will suffice, any thing goes, ask a homeless guy) Need: Food, and a way to store it (bag, box, bottle, any thing goes, ask a homeless guy) Want: Shelter...

Show me a Road Sign.....really any sign...

@MLGrace American tax dollars at work, right there! Don't worry about the problem, but do pay somebody to make a sign to warn people about the problem. Somebody elected somebody who decided it was a good idea to put that sign there... And then, there was this.

What's do you think the most impactful first upgrade is to a rig?

@MidOH Good point, lockers are absolutely a game changer. However, I would hardly recommend them as a first upgrade for the casual user, since at that stage the basics haven't even been covered (such as desired ride height, tire size, build weight, etc.) I however speak as one who built a rig...

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

@Jay61 Nice to know there's at least one cowboy hat on this planet that's been used by an actual cowboy! Incidentally, it happens that the term "overlanding" originated with herdsmen, albeit Australian ones. But, I assume you all already knew that.

New OB member in Apex NC

@Andrew.Werking Check out Tellico and Hurricane Creek if you're looking for a challenge. I haven't been to either, but have been to Uwharrie and am going later this year as well. Gorges State Park, have heard there's some fun to be had there as well, and Old NC 105 seems to be a favorite. If...

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

You are all not wrong. Overlanding is merely vehicular travel, however you decide to do it, and for whatever reason you do it. This community, like all others (as @Jay61 mentioned), will have those who condemn other members for doing it their own way, as well as those who spend less time...

    2018 GMC CANYON Build

Nice ride! The GMC Canyon doesn't seem to get as much love as her sister, the Colorado, but it's a much classier version of the platform. Can't help much with the rack and tent, but I can help with the tires. Firstly, educate yourself on the different tread patterns and their functions...

    Dispersed camping spots

@Tyr I believe we need a better explanation of the question. You said you were browsing the site and came across maps denoting dispersed camping sites, but you are asking for pointers for finding those maps? I am confused.

    US Southeast Uwharrie Weekend Run

@Kinginthewoods Hope you have fun out there! Your rig should be able to handle most of the easy and moderate trails, but you'll probably want to avoid the ones with rocks. The camera never shows how tight and twisty the trails actually get, and that's not even to mention the sharp ups and downs...

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

This thread is killing itself. At least it died laughing.

Enjoy your self-made Icecream during your journey!

@grubworm Hmm, now I'm scared. Thankfully, the Revolutionary War already happened.
