What kind of Overlander are you? Poll Question

We are absolutely explorers. As such, we equip our vehicle for that activity. We really like seeing the trucks that are set up for hard core wheeling, but we live in Texas, where its 100,000 miles between points of interest, most of which usually has to be covered on the interstate. I consider...

    1995 FZJ80 Land Cruiser

Be careful, they are a sickness. Though at least right now, the parts are pretty much available. If it isn't available from Toyota USA, there are several folks bringing in parts at reasonable cost from the countries where they were available for a few years longer than here. Seems that its...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Ive got a loud howl coming from mine around 45-55 mph in the last few weeks, though no clicking. Im hoping its just frozen slip joints, or really bad u-joints, but I'm afraid its actually in the diff... If so, this will be a good time to swap out for E-Locked axles.

    Camo netting for shade

Yeah like a Hex and poles is perfect. Ive used two x hex one for its own shade area free standing, and one outside my tent to allow ventilation, but still have some small amount of overhead cover.

    Camo netting for shade

I've done this a number of times, with the exception of how bulky the netting is to transport, its fantastic. The new stuff isn't as bulky when packed down, but provides more shade and wind break, plus the poles are easier to deal with, though I'm sure its commensurately more expensive as well.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Ive been conducting an ongoing rehab of my Air Conditioning system, and a few people asked me about the cooling unit. This is located under the passenger side dash in US spec models, and connects to the hardlines under the hood through the firewall. If you've not removed yours, chances are its...

    1995 FZJ80 Land Cruiser

My front wheel bearings had significant play as well, and I was very pleased to find that the PO had used high quality replacements when they were done, I just needed to snug them up. I went ahead and repacked them with Redline Synthetic as well. Its funny when I see bedliner on the bottom of...

    Ozark Trail coolers

Ive been hearing a lot about these lately, Im keeping my hawkeyes open for one of the smaller ones. Given that my kids ride in teh third row with me, Im not going with an Engel or ARB Fridge/Freezer any time soon, so a nice roto molded cooler is beginning to make more sense, if I like the small...

    1990 Toyota Hilux Surf

Very Cool. I remember being in Panama a few years ago and cruising around in Diesel Surfs and thinking how cool they would be in the US. Keep us updated.

    Rubber Floor Mats?

I've had weathertech on four vehicles now, from the rover to the cruiser to the Buick Enclave, they are just the only way to fly. I even have them for my little CRV. Sent from my iPad using Overland Bound Talk

Discovery 2 Electrical: Brake Lights Issue

Yeah that's exactly my thinking as well. Even the FSM suggests flexing the wires and moving things around to try to replicate an intermittent fault. Sent from my iPad using Overland Bound Talk

Discovery 2 Electrical: Brake Lights Issue

Have you tried jumping the wires and bypassing the switch altogether? Jump the green/purple wire and the green/orange wire; the brake lights should come on, the system is looking for continuity. I mean all this would do is prove your switch is bad. Sent from my iPad using Overland Bound Talk

Discovery 2 Electrical: Brake Lights Issue

I have the factory service manual, I wonder if there is a procedure for testing it? I'll dig into it and look. Wait one. Sent from my iPad using Overland Bound Talk

Discovery 2 Electrical: Brake Lights Issue

Ok, so my notes say it was frayed wiring adjacent to the left rear tail light, but I found that by tracing up from the trailer wiring harness, there were several sections that had been coated by mud and funk and were shorting against the inner structure of the quarter panel. It was definite,y...

Discovery 2 Electrical: Brake Lights Issue

I went through an issue with these exact symptoms, and I am 99% sure it was a ground issue. It's been several years, so let me find my notes and see if they have any info. Sent from my iPad using Overland Bound Talk
