Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
We have adjusted/canceled our vacation several times this year, and finally tomorrow we are out for a week!
Teardrop is ready and packed. Jeep is ready and packed and the new suspension is working flawlessly.
We live near Glenwood Springs and are heading out to the San Rafael Swell in Utah...
THANK YOU for taking the time to share all this! Super helpful, and I understand what you are saying about the V8....I won't immediately discount that option.
Look for something called "cable clamps" or "P clamps". They are shaped like the letter P and have an attachment hole at the tip of the P. They come is plastic and stainless steel and all different sizes. Usually the metal ones have rubber inside the circle part.

The hunt is on in full earnest.....specific list to look for, so it will likely take time. I'll keep this updated periodically with progress or lack thereof.
Well, we could.....but going from a Prius to a Hemi might be a bit overkill, lol.
The tough part is that she wants tan interior. She doesn't like black interiors....and likely white exterior!
Needle in a haystack!
Not in too big a rush, so I can just keep searching until I find the right one...
Thanks for the input! Likely it will stay mostly stock, and I am likely to avoid the air suspension. It will get Falken or Toyos for all purpose rubber and decent snow capability.
Any thoughts on the 5 speed vs the 8 speed? And what about that goofy electronic shifter?
Maybe some more context would be helpful....
We have a Jeep JKUR and a teardrop camper.....these get most of the fun travel duty. We like to mountain bike, stand up paddle board and combo these things with camping in the teardrop. Further, my wife has a bit of a work commute, and given that we...
We are considering the purchase of WK2 Grand Cherokee for my wife's daily. From the reading that I've done and from what I've found we'd be wanting the 3.6 with the Quadra-trac 2 4wd system.
Who's had experience with one and can share the pro's/con's of this model? We would likely be in the...
You might try calling Dirk at DPG Offroad in Rose Hill, KS........super knowledgeable guy and will always answer the phone....he may have some Toyota based referral.
If you want any route options or have any specific questions just shoot me a message and I'll offer up what I can/know.
Flaming Gorge Lake is cool and there are a lot of "overland" options all around! Grand Staircase and Vermillion cliffs are on my to do list as well. We will be out in that...
Oh my....sooo many options! That time of year is spectacular with cool nights, crisp mornings, and typically clear beautiful days....except when it's not, LOL. It can go full blizzard mode at any moment.
Watch the weather forecasts and plan accordingly. Start up high and up north and migrate...
You are thinking things through nicely.......assemble some basic kit, and then get out there for a day or two and take notes of what is NEEDED vs. wanted vs. wished for.
It's amazing how much stuff can be un-necessary (if you plan the trip well and don't try things you're not equipped for)...
It doesn't look like there is much activity on either of these attempts..........but checking anyway. I think I may squeeze out some time off that week and am fishing around a bit.
If the White Rim proves to be a no-go, you might take a look at the Rimrocker Trail from just south of Moab east to Montrose, CO. Or, there is A LOT to see in the San Rafael Swell around Green River.
