What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Hmmm, yes, it’s a constant merry go round, of pm and maintenance. But it’s all good, with 318,000 miles. I’ve no problem headed to Alaska or deep into Baja. And, total cost of vehicle plus maintenance is still well under $ 20,000..

    Solid axle versus independent suspension

That’s very true, my trailer is really light at 1,000 lbs loaded. No shocks. people following me are amazed at how it tracks perfectly and does not bounce around much at all. My secret has been outed, balance the tires & run only about 20 psi.

    OB'ers vs Covid19

Ok, then instead of playing word games with everyone, what exactly are you talking about? I’ve re read every one of your posts. The only thing that stands out is that you may have a completely different definition of the term freedom than do I. Sometimes two people are on the same page and...

    OB'ers vs Covid19

Not really sure about how you arrive at that. Lets use a couple of examples from WWII. Obviously the very notion of someone being drafted into the military, means flat out, that the draftee has given up any notion of freedom in the name of a greater cause. Meanwhile, mom & dad, back home have...

    Comms for your rig

We aren’t really into the whole communications thing. However, I do lead one tour per year so I did break down and purchase a CB. It’s a small 100 dollar job, mounted discreetly so it’s hard to see from outside the vehicle. If we did go wheelin a lot in groups, which we don’t, I’d get what our...

It was his choice not mine, personally I’d never buy new. Mine vehicle is a 96 and reliable beyond compare. However, I’ve asked about a very specific route/trail. So far no one knows.

    OB'ers vs Covid19

If the N.Y. metro area is taken out of the equation the current death rate in the rest of the US is just now tickling 100 deaths per million. Include the metro area and it is 200 deaths per million. Sweden chose herd immunity and they are at 256 deaths per million and rising. I hear the term...

    OB'ers vs Covid19

Wally, how can you possibly say some of the things you have said and at the same time be serving others with your work? You came off sounding like one of those armed idiots that stormed the state capital, carrying on about freedom etc. as to ignoranc, the WWII analogy is certainly an...

    OB'ers vs Covid19

So, you’d be the guy refusing to turn the lights off in his home during German bombing raids in London, because you refused to give up your right to do so? Dude, a temporary suspension of perceived freedoms is not a bad thing. When we as a nation were going thru any of the aforementioned...

    OB'ers vs Covid19

In all three of the major events I mentioned, temporary sacrifices were made. even so, in each case, those temporary sacrifices were well worth it, as each of those world changing historical events led to a stronger freer people. I’m willing to sacrifice a bit in order for for our society to...

    OB'ers vs Covid19

Thanks sneaks, for your service and your words of wisdom. Two guys wives, in our local chapter of the TLCA contracted c-19 and are currently recovering. My wife and I have nary a problem keeping to ourselves. I’ve had contact, within 6 ft, with 4 people since March the 14th. Being retired our...

Electric Winch vs Hi-Lift Winching Kit?

That point is one I have failed to make for years. I just always thought it an automatic that when ya get a winch, ya step up to dual batteries and be able to isolate the starter battery from the winch and/or at the very least get a “better than stock” battery.

Electric Winch vs Hi-Lift Winching Kit?

Just curious- back when I was shopping for winches, ( long ago) one had to be very careful about using synthetic line on a winch with an internal brake. I learned the hard way ( think melting ) first time around and ended up selling the winch and replacing it with an external brake winch. Do...

Oh, absolutely, many of us could get a stock 2WD through a lot of areas that over built trucks somehow have a difficult time managing.. that said, all things being equal, — even you or I couldn’t get an unlocked 2WD through technical terrain

Finding a balance between camping and driving.

Lots of good writing on this one folks! We may be a little strange but my wife and I prefer ground tents. We actually have 3, one for each purpose. A two man backpacking tent, a small 3 man tent for single overnighters, and a large 8x16 or so, for multiple nights. It takes roughly 45...

    Chevy Colorado/Technical ability

Hi all, specifically Chevy Colorado owners. My brother-in-law is in the process of delving into this hobby head first, and as such, went out and bought the Colorado 4x4 diesel double cab. On my advise he has since added heavy duty sliders from I believe Rocky Road, and this week is leveling up...

Post a Picture That Defines Overlanding For You

I think more than anything else that defines our personal definition of overlanding is having the absolute freedom to come upon the proverbial fork in the road, and taking it. No detailed plans, no point to point directions, no limitations.
