Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Years ago I remember having a difficult time finding chains around here that would fit my 285/75/16s. Even an online search resulted in only a couple of hits. I ended up choosing the Peerless cam lock, self tightening chains. I’ve only used them once and am very pleased with my choice.
Our last purchase was a 24 gallon auxiliary fuel tank from Long Range America. Our next purchase will be a reduction gear set for our transfer case. That’ll give us a 3.3:1 creeper gear and a 10% top gear reduction, the equivalent of having 4:56 diff gears. I’m looking forward to getting back...
Not a fan of cheap tires. You do get what you pay for. I run BFGs & Generals on two different vehicles. My wife’s car has cheapo tires and they will be replaced ASAP. For me it all boils down to cost per mile and safety. Expensive “ brand name “ tires are always less expensive per mile...
Been doing a bit of research. At first the SPOT X seemed like a better deal as the initial cost, and subscription costs had me sold on the SPOT X. Then I looked at their coverage map. None and/or very little coverage in the northern regions of North America. This is where this pair of late 60...
Those are simple load bars: I’m a purist, I think of definition # 1 when referring to something atop a vehicle.

You know what? I forgot about that. A lifetime ago I had a contracting business and the racks on my pick up bolted together and bolted upon the side boxes. I just don't understand the negative propaganda concerning modular racks. The South Africans or the Australians, both overlanding havens...
Not to be a curmudgeon or anything, but I’ve heard rumor about modular roof racks coming apart as well. However, mine, over the past 8 years and thousands of off pavement miles hasn’t even developed a loose bolt or nut. I’ve never met anyone that has had any problems with one loosening up...
Yes, two spare tires would be necessary. Currently, with my doing much research on any exact routing, a four hundred mile range should be sufficient. However, I’ll be extending our range to a bit over 600 miles with a 24 gallon auxiliary tank and another 10 gallons in Jerry cans. Another...
I had shorties on my old Rubicon which greatly reduced the odds of ripping one. One in a million chance? Yup, ripped it off while on Elephant Hill. K-puuuush. I have the shorties on my 80 series, and Colbys in my tire kit
I have a tendency to purchase products from manufacturers that specialize in only a couple of items. That’s getting harder to do because the small mom & pops are getting bought up by large corporations. Even though Thule bought Tepui, I still bought a Tepui. I have some cheap storage boxes I...
The Great Depression had more homeless than we have now.. over 3 million homeless back then, ( total population 127million) now it hovers around 500,000 . However even the Great Depression pales in comparison to the depression of 1870 when fully 1/5th of the populace was homeless. The...
We really should have a competition for all these types of things. Whoever gets to the trail head first, airs down first, gets to camp, sets up, eats, gets a shower, breaks down & packs up camp, back to trail head, airs up and gets home first wins!! LOL
As long as my head is higher than my feet I’m good. Sleeping with my head lower than my feet gives me weird dreams. Ive seen guys actually beak out a bubble level and spend a great deal of time getting perfectly level. I can’t be bothered. If it were important to me, I’d figure out how to use...
I used to have those brass deflators set to 20 lbs or so, screw em on, walk away for a bit and down they all went. I received an ARB tire deflator tool and once I learned how to use it gave the little brass ones to a friend. I’ve never understood the hurry and always chuckle to myself when I...
The recent court case that garnered National attention does not reflect your opinion. If anything the laws have been rewritten over the past 30 years or so that make it easier to “stand your ground” so to speak.
I’ve never had any problems, even while working job sites in south central, way back when. However, I’d never be mistaken for a good looking woman. Besides that we very rarely camp where ordinary 4x4 vehicles can easily access when we are alone. I also have a really good 7th sense and have...
It’s really easy logic to follow. We live in an era where participation trophies are the norm, rewarding mediocre performance. Then mediocrity is enhanced by all kinds of technologies enabling mediocrity to excell. It’s all smoke & mirrors because eventually the piper wants his pay. Crawl...
