    OZtent Eyre vs RX series?

No experience, cept I have an OZtent Jettent 25x that has been discontinued and replaced with a lighter weight version. The Eyre is a lighter version of the RV.

What gets adjusted when increasing tire size?

I’ve used 1.5” spacers for a very short time. Front driveshaft went out after only 40,000 miles. Then after a bit of research put a proper suspension underneath the vehicle. A spacer kit works just fine, is like saying that a door works just fine even though it is being slammed all the time...

What gets adjusted when increasing tire size?

Well, I agree almost 100% with your approach. However, when I built my vehicles I did a lot of simple math adding up the total probable weight of all the junk bolted on, where it would be bolted on, along with the weight of passengers, gear, extra gas, water, tongue weight. Then understanding...

Off road mid-size vs off road full size

Therein lies the confusion, in my simple mind, about size mattering. My 80 has a legal GVWR of 7,120 lbs. with a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs along with full floating axles. That’s more than a Ford F-150. So is the 80 a mid size? If so, then stating that a full size is superior anywhere it...

    85 TOYOTA FJ60 BUILD

No I do not. However, I recommend you do two things. Sign up on the IH8MUD forums as there is a plethora of Landcruiser knowledge there. Join the TLCA. Every club member I’ve dealt with is top shelf. This winter I’ll be driving 4 hours to a shop to get some re-gearing done along with the...

Keep or send it back(welding quality)

Don’t send it back; let the company know that you’ll be doing a full review of their product and of their customer service. ( blackmail? Maybe, but so what if it causes the company to do the right thing) it shouldn’t be on you to send it back. They need to send you a new one without you lifting...

Off road mid-size vs off road full size

Brown 25 is an old joke from a 45 year old movie The Groove Tube, having to do with human poo. BIL is Brother In Law. And yes, we’ve been all over the Gaspe’ peninsula. I’m also very familiar with the Montreal region as I visited your city every Monday for nearly 20 years. Out on the Gaspe’...

Off road mid-size vs off road full size

@Rennaissance_Man I don't know if our 80 series is considered to be mid size, but it is certainly smaller than todays standard size pick up truck platforms. My BIL has a new Chevy Colorado and it's about the same size as our 80. Before the 80 series we had a TJ, which may be considered...

    85 TOYOTA FJ60 BUILD

Cool, you’ve your priorities in order. You asked- ARB or OX rear locker? ARB hands down. Have fun, myself, as have several others on here, left the jeep world behind after owning our first Cruisers. Tis a very pleasant rabbit hole to explore.

    gonna get this out now.

We are always in a state of planning our next tour/trip. At this moment we have three trips coming up in less than the next 9 months and another roughly 13 months away. We inevitably find ourselves gone from home for 4-6 weeks at a time. However, as we are prepping for an Alaskan trip all...

Recommendations for cheap/simple point 'n shoot cameras?

I have an old Sony Cybershot DSCW830 that has been through hell and back (it has been dropped, sat on, slung out the window once, and lost for nearly a week in the trasharoo webbing behind the tin cans, which exposed it to regular old fashioned desrt weather) and still working good after 7...

    Brakes on overland rig

If you are not exceeding the GVWR of your jeep, then keep them stock. Loaded down I’m right at my vehicles GVWR and have only ever used top shelf ceramic pads. I get anywhere from 30 to 40 thousand miles per set. Just my opinion, some will differ.

Nice Rack but What a Pain

They are noted for deploying the airbags because of off camber or tilted off road situations. I don’t know if Chevy ever fixed it. But it would be something for you to look into

Nice Rack but What a Pain

I won’t make fun of you, you chose the Chevy just as my brother-in-law did. He also added the PrinSu racks. So far it’s been a relatively sturdy rig, having issues only with ground clearance and it’s been lifted 2”. He’s got the lesser version and is looking to add lockers before next spring...

    Bears Ears

We head west as often as we are able. The last trip out we headed due south out of Moab, into Bears Ears NM, then south to Hamburger Rock Campsite. We spent 5 days doing this, including a day trip over Elephant Hill, taking our time and enjoying ourselves. The 6th morning we headed into...

Prinsu vs arb on a fj cruiser

Have you considered the Aluminum racks by ARB or Front Runner? I’d not use any steel racks, nor would I use any rack that requires drilling holes. PrinSu looks like a nice rack, it is aluminum & my BIL has one atop his Colorado cab. I’m a little to old school though to be attracted by its...

    Damaged my tie rod

It’s pretty straightforward with a solid front axle vehicle. You will need a pickle tool and a big hammer that is used to remove the tie rod ends. You’ll need a new tie rod and two new ends. Naturally you’ll need a set of wrenches, sockets & a tape measure. You’ll also need to go to YouTube...

Overlanding Shoes (Is there such a thing :-) )

We seem to agree 100% on this ever important shoe thing. Nike has spent multiple millions selling running shoes that are complete garbage. Does any serious runner truly believe they should strike heel first?

    Fridge&Freezer recommendations

I researched for literally 8 years, ending just 3 years ago. The first priority was dependability. There are only 4 or 5 fridge/freezers that one would consider to be dependable. Dependable? I like when I read about fridges that are still going strong after 5-10-12 years of continual use. Most...
