Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Most of it is gravel, i think... The guy to ask is Nathan Farley, he's on Facebook, Indiana Overlanders...he's down in the HNF pretty often. Or even Dan Frasier, I think he knows the HNF pretty well. As close as you are (Im guessing 2-3hrs?) it would be worth it IMO.
The HNF (Hoosier National Forest) has some ok trails there. I really need to take a day and go explore since it is right at 2hrs away.. Really liked the trails up north in the Manistee National Forest.
I need to get some form of GPS (other than my Garmin lol) I just don't visit very remote locations to really make use of it. Most places a simple compass can get me out of where I am, if i get lost. I do keep paper maps of places i visit often though, they stay in a small plastic tote in the Jeep.
Just like the title says, the "Itch" is setting in. I have got to get off the road, pavement is boring and I'd much rather drive a dirt road all day than pavement for another hour. My busy season for work is coming sooner than i'd like and iv'e got to get out and explore some, soon...
Just took my first trip through the lower half of Michigan, beautiful state! Hoping next year to go to the U.P. for a few days. I am in Indiana so not too far.
