    Rude? Yay or nay

Wow, I let it go moments after the interaction. You are correct, some people would have just road on in. I would naturally assume anyone rude enough to ride right in to be drunk or meth heads. I do however enjoy engaging in thoughtful debate on issues of humanity, and why humanity seems to...

    Rude? Yay or nay

Interesting? is a complement. Backward logic? Only backward from the herd. Personal insult? No. Differing opinions? Yes. Bad analogy? Maybe, but a campsite is one’s temporary home and I was grasping for an analogy on the fly. And what, pray tell, do transvestites have to do with any of this...

    Rude? Yay or nay

Interesting, backwards logic, but interesting. If they are unaware that riding noisy things into another’s camp would be ok, then they would also lack the common courtesy that normal human beings would display when invited to another’s home as a guest. If my host doesn’t cuss, swear, drink or...

Battery Creep. Humor, depression and success.

Hmmm, I smile chuckle and laugh. Years ago I was in a brand new Freighliner. It would not start, randomly. Service guys with laptops couldn’t figure it out. After a while I got a big breaker bar and a big socket. And when it wouldn’t start I popped the hood, put the socket on the alternator...

Budget Rigs for 10K and under?

Ok then. I went from a TJ rubicon to an 80 series Landcruiser, actually it is badged as a Lexus LX 450. As far as automobile decisions it’s easily the best decision I’ve made in 50 years. The TJ is a great vehicle, but it has almost zero payload, and designed to last, maybe 200-250 thousand...

    Rude? Yay or nay

Pretty sure I said ATVs, some here have intertwined bikes into the conversation and in my humble opinion, they are not the same animal. To your point, I’ve always been an optimist and have very rarely been let down with what I assume is normal behavior. It seems there are a few entitled folks...

    Rude? Yay or nay

Truth, or be labeled a hater by them. When my girls were teenagers and I’d be working on something and needed to pass, they’d get irritated because I wouldn’t excuse myself. I’d just look at em and say- hey, I’m the one working here, you’re just lounging around, excuse yourself for being...

    Rude? Yay or nay

True, I know a lot of folks that lived/live in the burbs. They aren’t all dicks, but the ones that partake in the rat race, are not self aware. Yup, we had an old angry farmer lived down the road from us growing up. Even after he died, he was still a jerk LOL

    Rude? Yay or nay

Yup, quite good a reading people. It’s second nature to me, goes right along with situational awareness. In 68 years I’ve never had any problems with humans that could not be headed off at the pass, and with a smile.

    Rude? Yay or nay

Agreed, this happened over a month ago. Angry? Definitely not. Enraged? Nope. This was, unfortunately, expected behavior from city folk, entangled in the rat race and not knowing how to free themselves of it. As a farm boy I migrated to Los Angelus area. Culture shock ensued. No one seemed to...

    Rude? Yay or nay

My brother in law is a religious man by profession, he was deep in meditation at the time. My skin? Extraordinarily thick.

    Rude? Yay or nay

I really try not to judge people, I try to only observe. We were camped at a dispersed sight recently, tucked away, nice and private. My wife and I went for a walk after supper. Before we got even a few yards a couple of ATVs came roaring up to us. They stopped and the lead driver started...

    Mounting Electronics

Need I mention the huge number of passengers that have their feet on the dashboard while going down the highway?

Trying to make overlanding more enjoyable for a family of 4

My grandsons were much the same way- tied to the little screens. Gramma & I invested in some shock therapy treatment. And— it worked. Now, understand that the pair of brothers are Navy kids. Been more places all over the Pacific/N. America stage than most people only dream of. Stateside for...

    New cooking pots and pans

Yup, I’m shopping now, the old aluminum and non matching ceramic pot have been nearly beat to death over the past 25 years. How about the magnet test? Is cheap stainless only a coating?

    Solar Panel question

Although I was intimidated by solar technology a few years back, it’s pretty easy stuff if one can add & subtract. Just don’t cheap out on a controller. The Renogy wanderer isn’t the most expensive, but for us average overlanders it is more than enough power at 30amps.

    Grease

I use the red & tacky for all bearings- if it slides, ( driveshaft splines, birfield joints, etc) then I use black Moly grease.

    Carry?

Yes , yes & yes! It’s odd actually, we just finished a 2 week tour of the 4 corners region’s states, minus Colorado. We encountered maybe, as I recall, 10 or 12 people. I’m always asking myself, where o where are any of the OB members? I never run into any of em?

What is your preferred shelter? (Rooftop Tent vs Ground Tent vs Etc...)

Thanks; you understand MOAK, the overlanding curmudgeon! LOL !!

    Awnings

We’ve a full length Frontrunner awning on the truck and another small one on our trailer for the kitchen. I like the idea of a 270 or whatever awning, but the added weight up top on one side? I am in the constant process of shedding weight from our truck, so I cannot even consider a giant...
