Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
The route I will be scouting. Up to position F has been scouted. From F to G is an easy dirt route. From there on it is just a general route. Will add the dirt when I get to location G and enter into the leg i have not scouted.
From A to G is 99% dirt.
Now to make the time to go.
Well Good news. Got the purple lizard maps overlayed into the sportsman atlas.
So I only have to stare at 2 pages in the atlas. And they are on the same fold out.
Pages 94 and 95 (or 106 and 107 if I go lower)
So I officially have the route laid out.
Looks like the intersection of route...
Shared route
From To State Forest Picnic Area Rd to Bellefonte via Colerain Rd.
1 hr 40 min (43 mi)
1 hr 40 min in current traffic
Avoiding tolls
1. Head east on Colerain Rd/To State Forest Picnic Area Rd toward Brady Rd
2. Turn right onto Tram Rd
3. Arrive at location: Logan Township
4. Head...
I did scout a trail that will possibly be the starting or ending point on my journey.
This is the closest dirt to me on a lizard map and takes me right into Moshannon SF.
The gamelands road is packed gravel...but the road to/from it can get pretty rough after some weather.
There is a good bit...
The gated roads are closed. During hunting season some do open. They can be seen here...(click the link)

The best thing about the lizard maps is...if you see a road...and it isnt on the map...you should...
Got out to do some relaxing driving in the forest.
My son got a new trick bike and wanted to try it out. So we took the scenic route to the skate park.
Since I pretty much do all my exploring and camping local. I just use the paper maps.
We got alot of ground covered here in PA with some very great maps.
So these are what I use. Along with the sportsman atlas for the areas in between
The maps are easy to read and have lots of extra info. They...
Looks like I need to check this app out. I just cone here to document my adventures and let people follow along if they like. But, I have also noticed people show up looking for a trail and then never come back.
I only use paper maps and usually travel alone...so I just ignore technology...
Also. I have already added Tuscarora(waiting on the Lizard map) Loyalsack and Cook's forest to the list of scouting areas. So I will be planning separate trips to these areas.
Buchannon is on my list for camping weekends...but will never be part of the Central PA forest tour lol.
Elk...
I drive sections of it once or twice a month...the Rothrock section sometimes weekly.
The whole shebang. Might be a year or so. I go to Moshannon quite often too. Getting to Pine Creek or Sproul is the real challenge.
I would appreciate a tag along. But unfortunately...it will not be for...
I have it all drawn on the maps I have. I will be using my US topo maps app to track me for informational purposes. Like I did in the screen shot.
Not sure if that will make gpx file or not. I only have the free version
Just wanted to brainstorm with my plan. I have been scouting out the area making sure I get plenty of time in the forests while I wait for the opportunity to make it a trip.
I always hear that Pennsylvania just doesn't offer the experiences the west does. But I noticed a lot of people...
It is getting close to my favorite time of year. Was looking at the reservation sites for both campground and forest sites.
As with everything this year they are booking up fast.
Guess I need to figure out my plans for the next 3 months
Ha. I guess 5 would be fine...but if 6 show up...how you decide who to leave behind.
I guess this is why I wait til after i have went to tell anyone I am going...lol
I agree though. I like to be solo...but another person would give some peace of mind.
I guess my reality is that the part I...
Thanks for the update @armyRN.
This brings me back to my original thoughts. I will continue to enjoy PA and continue making my own routes.
I have been having the big debate about joining a trail ride. I will keep with my original thoughts on that too.
I think 4 vehicles and no more than...
