Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Star link and any upcoming competitors will make Sat phones, garmins, etc etc, obsolete. Very soon a Starlink antenna will not be much larger than a phone. Being full timers having the mini keeps us from having to get back “on grid” to pay bills, make appointments, contact the kids and...
I too have always been an advocate of a dual battery set up under the hood. With two of my previous rigs, an 04 Rubicon and an 80 series Landcruiser I had a simple manual electrical system to isolate the starter battery when at camp. 100 amp hour battery should keep your refrigerator running...
yikes- we considered goin deep into the wilderness, as it was we were happy to do a bit of exploring and 3 nights of camping just a bit north of Moosehead Lake. Going way west & north of there I think I’d want to go in with no less than 2 trucks.
Back to RI after wild camping at the edge of the Maine wilderness for 5 nights. Couple of little things to sort out, such as reducing carry case footprint, propane extension hose, extra water filters and getting another set of treds. I’ll be moving the rack forward 4” along with a tire...
After a month of camping near Rhode Island for a few nights at a time, our electrical issues have been ironed out by Main Line Overland in NH. . Shake down completed. Now in a nice site in central Maine. Only the beginning of our travels. Follow along if you’re interested in keeping up with...
10 years ago I had no idea that someday I’d be a client of MLO. Back then I was a do it yourselfer, and had my 80 and my expo trailer and plenty of time to dial everything in perfectly. MLO is also a top shelf expo rig outfitter, why would I pay them to do something that I was entirely capable...
We were farmers, so, no vacations, except for 9 or 10 livestock shows a season. Basically camped out in the back of a pickup for a week at a time at each show. So, technically I was livestock overlanding at the age of ten. When I was 16 I was going to the shows alone dragging a trailer, and...
Yesterday & Today I permitted someone else to work on my expo truck. Mainline Overland did a great job installing my Renogy inverter flawlessly weaving it into the Redarc system.
I should have said only a thousand- the hest was 600 and change- the Froli was 300 and change. Ya, at 60 I still felt like I was in my 40s. Even at 71 and my honey 68 we are still able to go for a nice long walk in the woods. Two days ago it was an 8 mile walk in the granite state!
I’d have to go look at the filter replacement but it is very common looking- 3/4 gallon per minute. I think it is a 30 minute run per charge. I’m guilty of doing all the research, buying a product, then forgetting all the details.
We purchased the GuzzleH20 in preparation for our full time tour. I’ve used it a couple of times. Once as a transfer pump from a tank in the cab to the tank in the 4WC and once from a lake into the 4WC. The unit works as advertised, in fact, with an additional 25 ft of hose, we were pumping...
My wife and I have used every form of camp bedding imaginable, starting with cheap foam pads and army surplus bags, ( we were young and didn’t care) an air mattress and army surplus bags, (still young and not caring) cots with thermarest pads and comfortable sleeping bags- ( in our late 50s and...
We’ve been all over the Big Bend region and the rest of the country in basically stock vehicles. The old Rubicon had “ heavy” old man emu springs to support the extra weight without too much sag and our 96 Landcruiser had OME springs for a heavy load. Each vehicle had 33” rubber. Plenty...
Two fold; The worst part is having to go and deal with all the people and heavy traffic east of the Mississippi. The other worst part is when the tour ends. We have fixed the former as we are now full timers. Our tour could well be never ending.
I suggest you check out Dan Grec on his YouTube channel- The Road Chose Me. Then check out Andrew St Pierre White’s work on 4X Overland workshops. Both of these guys have really great advice.
I thought he was affiliated with the old JP Magazine- maybe Krawler or Low Range, or all three at one time or another. Is he still around? Oh my- We’ve hijacked a thread & revealed our old timer status !
