Winch powered by Starting or Auxiliary power? What do you recommend?

I have 2 batteries in my Willys. I have a Cole Hersee battery master switch, and between that and my winch I have a 400 amp Mega fuse. When I use my winch if I can I keep the engine running at 1300-1500 RPM (I've got a hand throttle) and I switch to the battery 2 position and winch away. I like...

PSA for those who may not know...Tow balls are NOT recovery points!

I saw a broken tow ball yesterday when I was in town, the guy had a 2 5/16" ball break. When I looked at the top of the ball it was rated at 6000#, who the hell buys a 6000# 2 5/16" ball to pull a 30' trailer? I converted all my trailers (4) over to 2 5/16" couplers. I have a solid shank...

Tire snow chains, Driving Yosemite NP in winter

Ideally having 2 sets of chains is the best. If you only have 1 set chain the front up so you'll have steering, braking and traction. Quality chains are expensive so if you're going to buy chains buy "V" block chains, they will last 5-10 longer than cheap chains or cables. Once you have your...

    Campground or Boondock?

Other than one time with about 50 fellow Jeepers I always get as far away from people as I can. My ex and I were camping off a little used 2 track in southern WY. We hadn't seen anyone with in 190 miles f camp in 2 weeks it was a perfect trip. Then we went for a drive and to do a little...

    Stew.

You need better deer, the ones up where I live are great tasting. The ones down south that eat sage brush have a really heavy sage taste.

    Changing fluids

Might as well put in a new radiator cap to go along with the new thermostat.

    Changing fluids

Well since the truck is "new" to you I would change all the fluids, new quality filters, maybe new spark plugs and check the lights, wiper blades, shocks, belts, hoses and batteries. That way you know it's all been done and things are good to go. For me that's piece of mind.

Odd noise coming from our patriot. Thoughts on what it could be.

If just the insides of the tires are worn get an alignment before you get tires so you don't wear out the new tires too.

Distance between home and the start of a trail

I'm lucky enough to be able to do the same thing, I live 40 miles south of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Two miles from my house I can be on a 2-track and with in 12 miles (25 minutes) I can be camping and enjoying life in peace and quiet. I've been 2 miles from the start of a trail to 3 days...
