Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
I've notice at least 3 other amputees on here and that got me to thinking. How many do we have on here and what's missing?
Does it slow you down or keep you from Overlanding or life n general.
How do you compensate?
I'm an above the knee amp on the right side.

Mine is a sporkle!
OK, here's the overhead console I built for my Willys to hold "Farkles".
It's got a panel of 8 switches, 2 fuse panels, an AM/FM radio and speakers, CB mount, a Ham radio (not in these pics) mount, 2 map lights, 2 12V plugs, a volt meter, I'll be moving my vacuum gauge up...
I guess that depends on how many lights you have on your rig and what they're for. I have 2 spot lights that face forward, 2 flood lights that point out about 45* and my back up lights at are also on a switch so I can see behind me.
That's a nice, concise write up and it covers a lot of things and situations.
All I can add is if you're new to this or a new winch owner. Go out with a buddy or 2 on a nice, warm, sunny day and find a place to become "stuck". By that I mean a nice, dry place not really stuck. Pull your cable...
In my area neither the Sheriff or Highway Patrol will bother you if there isn't any else on the road. If you do it in traffic then you get to do the "meet n greet".
If the guys with the super bright unaimed lights don't dim usually a quick flash of my 2 500,000cp lights gets their attention...
It's ok, I didn't take offense to what you said at all. I just wanted to point out there are places and times when it's ok to use my well aimed "off road" lights on the highway. I do not use them in traffic or when there are a lot of other vehicles on the road. Except once in a while when one of...
Looks good, might try them with just power before you try cutting and fitting. Is there enough room in the mirror housing for them and I also wonder if you would be able to shim them so they point where you want them when you get them in the mirror body?
I think you'll like the new position, it should cut down on glare and reflection. That will make it a lot easier to see with them on. DOn't forget to go out and aim them! ;))
One idiot checking in!
Where I live early mornings or late evenings there is little to no traffic with the exception of elk, deer, cattle, horses and sometime vehicles people left not quite off the road. I use my off road lights a lot during those hours so I can see and avoid those things...
Looks good, you did a nice job!
I like pintle hitches and have used them a lot over the years. It's a strong, solid, easy to hook up hitch system and you don't have to worry much about your Buddys trying to borrow it. .
The drawbacks are only being about to use a limited amount of trailers (I...
I like those, do they make bigger ones that will hold maps? They remind me of welding rod moisture proof storage cans.
I tried 2" PVC for map cases but you can't get many maps in it, it's too small. I do however have a lot of other stuff I could put in them.
Something to think about how much would it cost to make a "new" rig to replace the one you know and love now? With fires bigger is better, I've never heard any complain that they had some left after the fire was out. I have heard many times "I wish I had 2 or 3 of these or a bigger one" when...
I agree with this, ALWAYS carry a blade everywhere you are. If you do not have it on you it's too far away if you need it now. Whether you actually carry a firearm or can't, won't you need a good, sharp knife with you always. Remember anything 2 legs or 4 that's worth stabbing is worth stabbing...
I agree with you, that's one of the reasons I have a 75 watt 2 meter Ham radio and a CB. Not everyone has the time, money and a license to use a Ham radio but a lot of people have a CB. I also have a handheld FRS/GMRS radio too.
You did a great job on the write up and explanations, well done!
That's what I always tell the people in my classes and there are a lot of areas around me that a GPS doesn't get a signal.
This is something most people don't recognize as a problem until it's almost past time to do something. We used to say if you don't have to pee every 30 mins or so your empty, drink up. By drink up that means at least a 16oz bottle not a sip so everybody will quit bugging you.
Well written...
