Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Thank you for the insight. I also like the idea of a removable tongue on the trailer, or interchangeable. I thought about welding up a tongue bracket that would accept a two inch stinger, but I’m not the best welder and that isn’t something I’d trust my skills to, even tho I have been known to...
Amigos, while looking over posts and vids about off road trailer builds, I’m thinking about hitches and trying to decide if/why I may want to change mine from the 2 inch ball hitch to a pintle / Luette ring or some other type.
Things I’m weighing out:
1- I’ve owned the trailer over 10 yrs with...
Coming together nicely. Just test-fitting now, working out the idea for couplers so the rail can break down into the three pieces for storage when traveling. Welded all the receiver tubes and it seems fairly stout. Should perform admirably. Not sure yet what I will use to span the gaps...
Hey Travis, Lee from Idaho. Welcome, and it looks like you are a Jeep guy. We won’t hold that against you. Ha! Many would say you are ahead of most of us non-Jeep owners. Lots of knowledge here. We look forward to seeing on the forum and possibly on the trails...
Nice work, great idea. I love the multi-function and adaptation. Couple questions- it looks, in the pic, like both tracks are mounted together like legos stacked on the side of the truck? My sense of symmetry is asking if they should/could be mounted either on both sides or on the tailgate...
So I watched a YouTube vid (I know I prolly should not have) where a fellow built a full deck over his van, where he could set up removable guard rails, have a table and pedestal chairs like a bass boat would have, etc. It got me thinking (I know I prolly shouldn’t have)
so out to the side...

I have been thinking of trying a small outboard gas can. They hold 2-10 gallons, usually sit low profile, have a gravity flow and primer bulb. Might take some finagling to sort out the shower head, but it’s metal, will heat by the Sun or by the fill cap... can probably be pricey to buy a new...
Cabelas has some green mil-style totes w/rubber sealed lids, side handles. Different sizes, so you can decide which works best for you. If you want to move it from vehicle to house etc.
You could also try a 30mm ammo can. They are fairly rugged but add more weight to the package.
I’m with Andrew, and old-school Weber grill or smoker makes a great fire-pit and are still usable as a bbq grill/smoker. You can probably find one fairly cheap at a yard sale or marketplace. The lid is nice when snuffing out the fire too!
Keep a road atlas in the pouch behind the passenger seat. GPS fails, Atlas doesn’t. Albeit my truck IS weatherproof. But I’m reasonably sure they make weather resistant sleeves for the atlas... hmmm.
Not sure how your Jeep is set up (solar?) or if you have an extra 12 battery in a Jackery or some other rechargeable 12v system, but I can say a 12v blanket is absolute GOLD, when camping in the fall or winter. We have had one for years that stays under the back seat of the truck. My Wife is a...
