Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Hey Jeremy -
The dual band is for the HAM frequencies, which also happens to work with the GMRS radio. You will need a separate antenna for the CB. I actually just retired my Cobra 75, it was hard to hear in the Jeep, although that could be solved with an external speaker.
I will probably...
No HAM license here either..yet, certainly not in time for this trip. I can however monitor HAM frequencies, and have both GMRS and CB to share what's being said with other non-ham'ers.
To be compliant in the US the GMRS radio has to be FCC certified part 95A and the HAM radios are certified part 97 I believe. It's a very short list when it comes to detachable antenna GMRS radios that are actually Part 95a compliant.
Blue Sea ACR with Dual Optima Yellow tops, no issues and much better then the 2 Diehard Platinums I had in there before, re-badged Odyssey or not, those things were crap!

I picked up one of these off Amazon a few months back for about $53. I had been looking at the $120 Midland MXT100 (this was before the release of the new models with new features) but wasn't ready to plunk down the cash for one.
What drew me to this radio was the fact that it had GMRS...
It's been awhile since I installed mine but I believe there is some fore-aft adjustability in how the rear bar support mounts to the rack, perhaps yours is too far forward? Also, double check the body knobs are adjusted properly to eliminate any side to side movement. I'll check back once you...
FYI - I just noticed in the Expo newsletter that you can only check in to the campsites on Thursday if you have purchased your campsite in advance.
This is the blurb from the email:
